I recently picked up a pair of rt2000p towers for $400. I'm not sure exactly how old they are, but they sound awesome and I love them and i think i got a good deal on them. All the components still work awesome as far as I can tell the only issue is they do not seem to sound as clear as what I think they should. I have them wired in as my main fronts on a 7.2 ch system with 5 other yamaha speakers to complete the system. A Yamaha rx-v1065 receiver is running the whole 7.2ch set up currently and I'm wanting an amp and possibly an EQ. My question is has any one else had problems with mid and high clarity, is it possible both tweeters are bad or is it my receiver doesn't have the power to run them or doesn't have enough adjustment to compensate? I have the line level only connections for the speakers with the bass and speaker jumper plates removed and am running my receivers pre outs directly to the sub line level rca jacks on the towers. Is there something else wrong possibly? I have to run my other yamaha fronts and the center to get the mid and high clarity to come out.

I do not know what wired in phase means, I'm still sorta new to the audio world, but know enough to keep me out of trouble and out of money...

Am I understanding this correctly, you removed the jumper plates, then what is connected to the top posts ?

Dude, put the jumpers back on, do not connect anything but speaker cable to the 2000's. Take that sub connection from the receiver to the speakers out of the mix. Your trying to use the sub part of the speaker as a dedicated sub for movies I take it. Given the extreme volume of low bass that comes on DD soundtracks, your going to blow those puppies, they aren't ment for that.

Here's a link to what your receiver delivers in 7 channel mode. Yep, a whopping 30 watts is all. Hopefully I don't have to draw you a picture. How about some more info on the gear, cables, how you have the 2000's hooked up,and we can help you get the most from them.

The way I have it set up is receiver speaker front L and R (the main fronts) to speaker line levesl only, the jumper plates to the bass line only are removed and then the pre outs from the receiver to the RCA ins on the towers. I've got the LFE option set to both which sounds the best I think. The speaker lines are through 16ga wire with banana clips on both ends. I double checked the polarity for the connections as well and it didn't make a clarity difference. Other than this set up or with the jumpers back in what else could be wrong with the clarity?

Couple questions, what is the crossover in the receiver set at,speakers ? What do you mean by "banana clips"? Do you mean the alligator clips or regular audio banana plugs?
Also check and make sure none of the plastic coating from the speaker wire is stuck inside the binding posts on the speaker or receiver end. Try putting the speaker back with the jumpers, disconnect the sub part from the receiver and just use the speaker wires, run the receiver in 2 channel and see how it sounds. We can take it from there.

I agree with what Tony said, and if you could post some pics of your connections that might help too.

I had them connected with the jumper plates before the way it is now and it sounded worse then the way it is now. They are the banana plugs, I don't know why I call them clips... The crossover freq in the receiver is set to 160 if I remember correctly. In 2ch is when it sounds the muddiest or most unclear. Polk CS says the tweeters or possibly the internal crossovers in the towers might be damaged. I also listened to them in 2ch today and am not hearing any sounds at all coming from the tweeters, with it down low and my ear right next to it there is nothing. The mid speaker is making sound just fine as well as the subs, in both towers. I'll try and get some pics on here asap...

Could be then the tweets or crossovers are fried. You should try and get your money back from the dude who sold them to you. Have you taken them apart yet for a look see?

Haven't taken them apart yet, tweeters are only 88$ each which makes them still a good buy if I had to replace them. I've seen used ones for $600 and up on ebay, crossovers are another story tho... How would you tell for certain if the crossovers are bad?

You will get a discount if you buy those parts from polk and tell them you're a member of club polk!

Thanks for the discount heads up, also I checked the tweeters after taking them out of the towers and they are for certain bad. I checked the midwoofers on the tweeter leads in both towers to make sure it wasn't the crossovers and got plenty of crystal clear high sound from them so now I now it's the tweets and not the crossovers. Im gonna get in contact with Polk CS and get some shipped to me. If anyone else is having problems with their tweets in the RT2000P towers they are SL6502S I believe is the part number for reference, should make a hell of a diff!!
