For those of us who used to own a Corolla.

I used to have a 1987 Toyota Corolla....the car was near bullet proof. I like to think my old car is still providing reliable transportation to some people. Btw, I currently drive a 2009 Corolla S.

Washington Post article on why 90% of all cars in Afghanistan are Corollas

My brother had a Corolla... 200k miles on the clock when he gave it away... I still see it around. Back when the Toyota's were built well (probably before they started being made in the US :-X)
    Ludicrous gibs!

My first new car was a 1979 Corolla. I drove it for 7 years with no problems and it was all original, even the battery. The next two owners of that car had no problems either. My current Toyota is a 2000 Tacoma and the only thing I've replaced after 248k is the starter solenoid.

My first car, a Corolla, was purchased used from a lot around 1983 and was several years old. I drove it into the woods, everywhere. Sold it for 800.00 to a friend, who commuted to work. After several more years, a cylinder blew, but the car still ran. Charlie drove it on 3 cylinders.

You are very kind to your old man.

We were all in the Ramcharger, Dad, mom, my wife and the baby, heading to Swan Valley in Idaho. Dad was talking about his brother and what he wanted from his father's estate. We hit this quiet spot in the conversation, and in a very earnest and somber voice I asked my father for Grandad's camera. "I will do that, Son."
"I'm serious Dad. That's the camera Pap tried to give me but I wouldn't take it."
"I hear you- it will be yours."

One of those rare moments, close together, and a man's word was his bond. Everyone felt good riding along in the truck.

A couple years later I got a phone call. It was Dad.
"Hey, just thought I'd tell you, your Uncle Bill is having a yard sale and he has that camera for sale. Maybe you'd better call him if you still want it."

Well, so much for the bond. I called and Uncle Bill said yeah, a guy looked at it and was going to give him 10 bucks but then the light meter wouldn't come on. This was a Nikormatt, handmade in Japan in the early 60s. Back when glass was class. That was a 350-400 dollar camera then.

He sent it to me. The light meter came on. Thank's Grandpa. I know you were looking after it.

My sister has a '90 corolla, loves it. 20 yrs old and still kickin'. I just changed the original battery on my 1996 Lexus. The guy at Napa gave me a look like "you have got to be kidding me." I said almost 15 years is good for a battery, no? He shook his head and said "daaamn." I love the older toyota's,honda's. The old civics, accords were bullet proof too. Nothin' like having a car with no payments for over a decade,eh?

I think they're still built well. My 2005 Highlander just went past 85,000 miles and I'm kind of "worried" about the brakes: they haven't made any noise yet. I have never had brakes lasted this long. I mean, I'm about to replace my timing belt (@ 90,000 miles) and the original brakes are still on the car. I haven't even changed a single light bulb....and my headlights are always on (for safety).

I have a 1993 Geo Prizm, which is a Toyota Corolla with Geo badges on it.

It only has 80k miles on it cuz my grandma owned it from new and took very good care of it. When I helped her find a new car she gave me the Prizm. I'm hoping to get another 100k out of it.:D

I had a 93 Corolla that I bought off a neighbor who was going thru some tough times. Paid him $600 for it and drove it to work for about 6 years without any issues. Great little car.

The end came when a Dodge Caravan decided to cut across 3 lanes of traffic. I was beside a 18 wheeler to my left when this Van showed up perpendicular to my path. T-Boned him at 35mph with 3 feet of skid marks. Airbag and crumple zones worked great and I walked away.

His insurance gave me $2900 for the car. Wish I could find another like that one.

I remembered something else about my Corolla; I put a bumper sticker on that said:

    Warning, I brake for Mutants

I had more trouble with being pulled over by the cops after I put that sticker on....
