Which series Monitor 10s are these?

hey all. A guy in my area is selling these (along with a Hafler DH-500 amp). As you can see, they're in fantastic condition but he's not sure which series these are. He did mention they do not have fuses. (Fuses for what? The tweeters?)

I was interested in these based on the various threads I've read about them after become a Polkie. I doubt they're going to replace my TSI500s, but I may keep them for a 2 chan rig. Any advice on the Monitor series? Which ones are supposed to be better?

Also, what do you guys think about the price: he wants 400 for the Hafler and the Monitors. The Hafler is also in excellent condition (like the speakers). Comes with stands as well.

Thanks guys!

i saw a couple of hafler DH-500s that sold on ebay for more than $400. I'm not sure what model those Monitor 10s are but those look like SL-2000 tweeters.

Most on here recommend replacing those with RDO-somethings.

But if you need a 400 power amp and you're getting the Monitor 10s for less than $100 - then it's probably a pretty good deal.

    Thanks for the responses guys!

Which series is considered the 'cream of the crop?' I know it's subjective, but from the reading I was doing, it seems a general consensus was: 'the older, the better.'

Is there anything else I could ask the guy to narrow down which model they are?

Nothin to narrow down; geppy was right on. Late 10B's.

I have no idea what that hafler is worth, but 10B's in excellent condition with the original stands are worth about $175.

The RD0 somethings wayne was referring to are the RD0-194's. They are the newer replacement (upgrade) for the sl2000's.

The "older the better" logic for the 10's comes from (2) places. 1: the fact that the oldest models are more rare than the newer models, and so should be worth more money, and 2: it is commonly accepted that the peerless tweeters in the older 10's sound better than the sl2000's in the newer 10's, like the 10B's you're looking at.

It is more debatable about whether the peerless' sound better than the RD0's though, which you could put in those 10B's. The only problem with that is that it will tack on just under 100 bucks.

Don't be turned off by the sl2000's. There are many a worse tweeter out there, and for $150-$175 the Monitor 10B's, even with the sl2000's, are a great bargain and a hard speaker to beat.

If you need another confirmation, those are Mon 10b's with SL2000 tweeters.

No such animal as a 10c (Although the comparable model in the Mon 7's would be 7C)

Decent price IF the Amp is really worth $300-400, especially with stands :D

10B. The sl2000 tweeter & beveled front give it away.

Haha, yeah that 10c comment really threw me for a loop. Thanks guys. I think I'm going to bite. Best case scenario: I begin a 2 channel rig. Worst case scenario: I'll try them out for a time and if they aren't a fit I'll see if I can't pass them along to another Polkie for a reasonable price. ;)

Ok, dumb question time. Are those original stands? They look so small. I am wanting to build some stands for my 10's. Just scored some nice cherry wood today. Guess I need to search more on building to original specs.

ho hum. Didn't even think about that. what do you guys think about those not being the correct stands? It looks like that 'aftermarket' stand is still about the same specs-wise. About the same height, and does have an angle of tilt. I guess that's not a big deal. *sigh* hehe

Think I would be more worried about them accidentally getting knocked over than anything else. With those small bases and all.

Well, I pulled the trigger. I'm interested to see how they sound compared to my 500s. I'm also interested to compare my Adcom 200 w/ch to the Hafler 250 w/ch. I won't get to hook them up for another week, but when I do I'll be sure to update you guys. ;)
