Have you ever found something you didn't know you had?

I've been going through the boxes in the basement and last night I was sorting through a bunch.
Now a few years ago, I had piles of engine parts. I'm not talking like connecting rods and stuff. I'm talking several sets of cylinder heads, engine blocks, entire, balanced rotating assemblies and all kinds of bearings, pushrods, lifters, manifolds and even throttle bodies and carburetors. I ended up selling most of it to pay bills that my ex was running up like there was no tomorrow.
Now I know I "acquired" stuff by default and wasn't 100% sure of what I had sitting around. But I knew that after I had unloaded most of the stuff, I had 3 carburetors leftover. One was the 600 cfm Holley 4bbl with the electric choke. There was a 2bbl Holley with manual everything. There was also the 200 cfm Mikumo or whatever Japanese pile of junk was on the 4 cylinder in the Ranger. I had sold the 600 to a kid in California who was restoring his dad's 65 Mustang. The Japanese pile of junk is in a box in the garage and I'll probably scrap it. It's worth more in brass than use. The 2bbl I probably won't sell because it's not street legal and not much 2000cc spec racing goes on around here. But it's a good carb to get something running.
But I found a Holley box. It was heavy and I wasn't sure what was in it. So I opened it up. Sitting inside, still in the blister wrap with warranty cards and everything is a Holley 4150 750 cfm square bore double pumper and an electric choke conversion kit. This is like, between $500 and $600 worth of carburetor and I, for the life of me, cannot figure out where it came from. I know I didn't buy it, it's not even in the right box. The box is for a 4150 but it's for a 0-4781S which is 850 cfm, manual choke and mechanical secondaries. This one is a 0-4779C according to engraving. I have never had anything that would have used it. The only car I had that would use 750+ cfm of flow and that much fuel was my Mustang but that was fuel injected so no carb.
I've talked to everyone I know and no one seems to know where it would have come from. One guy did offer me a spread bore adapter plate and a kickdown linkage for it though.
I dunno, odd thing. Been on my mind all day.

Rummaged around in my parents attic a number of years ago and found a shoe box with my baseball cards from the early to mid 60's and a few older than that. I know a few of them are worth some $$ and could easily sell them but I like to look at them every now & then just to go back in time
I'm told that my Mickey Mantle cards alone could finance my next audio upgrade even though they are not worth as much as they were a few years ago.Yep, my name really is Bob.

I found a human pelvis bone in the attic of my house while cleaning out the former owners belongings! I gave it to the police. Don't want to know who it belongs to, or why it was in the attic, and I don't want to know! Hopefully it wasn't his ex wife, but who knows? Go figure, I was hoping to find something to take to "Aniques Road Show"! Wouldn't they be supprised!Sources: Technics SL1200MKII | SME3009 Tonearm | Monster Alpha 1 MC cartridge | Oppo UDP203 disk player | Nikko NT-790 analog tuner | Musical Fidelity Trivista 21 DAC | Preamp: Threshold SL-10 | Amplifier: Threshold Stasis 2 | Speakers: Snell Acoustics C/V | Kimber 12-TC bi wire speakers | Analysis plus Oval 1 preamp to amp | Wireworld Eclipse 7 DAC to Preamp | Wireworld eclipse digital IC Oppo to DAC | Audioquest Quartz tuner to preamp |

Being a tech, I find stuff all the time. I get lots of work calls to go through my stash.
I have a lot of shelving full of odds and ends that seem like
junk, but I get calls looking for something a couple times a week and then
off to FEDEX to overnight it somewhere. Damn company won't pay to store it,
but I'd catch hell if I just tossed it all. I really need to weed through my
audio stuff again, too. Did I mention there are three tool roll arounds in
the garage?"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

I had a room like that at my old job. It was stacks of old machines because we used to buy exclusively from a particular hardware provider that went belly up. All the systems were leased but when the lease was up there was no where to send them back to so we started stacking them. Since they were bought with government money, they were in bureaucratic limbo. But they hadn't come to an agreement with a new vendor yet so they were being cannibalized to fix the machines that were left. That was fun. Like a hernia or shingles.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I thought I had a few posts in this thread but they seem to have disappeared because I can't find them.

My biggest problem is I cant find what I do know I have
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -

Gotta admit... if I am not immediately using it or need it - I either sell it or throw it away/recycle it.
I hate clutter.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

You own a house now... you're always going to need it. All those little bits and scraps of building material might just come in handy in the future.
Of course, you're essentially rebuilding your house, so by the time you're done, nothing should need fixing for a few years. My project has stretched out so long, I never know what I'll need.Ludicrous gibs! -
I keep USEFUL scraps...
Wood larger than 2 ftx2 ft - unless it is like a 1x something --- something sizeable... plywood... screws
Thats ok - but you wont see me keeping "junk" - tools are one thing I like having around...
But yeah -- that kind of stuff I dont mind keeping around,- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
This happened several yrs ago, and I suppose it could happen again.
I was at work (I'm a tech for a baby bell) looking for something on my truck that I just knew I had, and while I was looking I started grumbling about why the last idiot that had my truck kept all this worthless crap that was stashed all over in the service box.
That's when I remembered I got the truck brand new.
I do have a habit of buying tools and hardware for projects, not using it, and forgetting I have it. I recently cleaned out my workshop area and found enough electrical hardware from our kitchen remodel to stock a a small town hardware store. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
I don't have enough stuff to not know about most of it. :):p

Usually, it's something in my wife's closet with a tag still attached that she claims she bought "a long time ago".

I knew I had this, but for 3 months I had no idea where it was. I purchased Sade's "Soldier of Love", and it was a mixture of good and so so, but overall I liked it. Anyway, one poker night I played it both as something new, and to hopefully irritate some of the players so they would make bad decisions. Anyway, after some not so subtle hints, "Is that still playing?", I took it off. And that was the last time I remembered seeing it. For weeks I went through all my CD storage areas, I looked behind the equipment rack, multiple times, but I couldn't find it. I was starting to think one of the poker players took it so they would not have to hear it again.
Anyway, today I was cleaning the house and decided to clean the rug behind and under a corner table, and while I was on the floor peering and reaching around the table I saw a CD on the floor in the corner. You guessed it. It was Sade, and I'm wondering how it ended up here. Anyway, it was a pleasant surprise. Its like getting a new CD.
EDIT:
Ouch. I just opened the CD, and it is EMPTY.
Now I have to go through all my CDs and see if I somehow mixed them up. This is looking more and more as a drinking and listening to music related event. :rolleyes:Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I love doing this with CD's. I commonly will leave some in a box somewhere after getting done moving and then when you find it, its just so much fun!
Last time I found a good 20-30 CD's that I forgot I tucked away and thought I lost forever as I couldn't find them for about 3 months.... -
What I hate the worst is when you NEED it, you cant find it. If you dont NEED it you cant sell it or even give it away. But ALWAYS: if you throw it away you realize you NEED it again. And now when you have to buy it again, now it costs more! LOL

I remember a cartoon showing two desks. One desk was as neat and orderly as could be the other desk was a pile of papers, coffee cups, books and junk. The caption read "the neat person will never know the joy of finding something you thought you had lost."

I went through all my CDs and never found Soldier of Love. However, I did find that the ZZ Top Tres Hombres CD is also missing. Great. How, how, how, how?
Anyway, for whatever reason I have gotten side-tracked and never finished listening to The Complete Haydn String Quartets, which is on 25 CDs. So I decided to listen to another CD, I opened the box to get the next CD, and there was Soldier Of Live. Just sitting in the box. Unfortunately, ZZ Top was not in there.
Well, sorry Haydn, but its Sade time.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
