...for doing nothing? Sorry, it's a newsy kinda day for me but this one...man, where did I go wrong? I mean, ya do everything "right", ya know? Go to school, get a degree, find a job and EARN a living and be a productive and contributing member of society. Slave away your entire life only to retire and most likely die dirt poor because Medicaid stole all your assets to pay for a shoddy nursing home. Then you see veritable "rocket scientists" like this guy strike a gold mine for just being the pinnacle of douchebaggery on T.V.

'Jersey Shore's' The Situation could earn $5 million this year

Mike Sorrentino, 29, could earn as much as $5 million by the end of this year.

(PEOPLE.com) -- The Situation has no problems when it comes to the compensation.

One of the breakout stars of MTV's smash hit "Jersey Shore," Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is busily, and effectively, turning his drama into dollar signs. Between his MTV salary, endorsement deals, his own branded products and other media opportunities, Sorrentino, 29, could earn as much as $5 million by the end of this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The abs-flaunting Sorrentino is raking in close to $60,000 per episode in salary, and between $15,000 and $50,000 per event for appearances. He also has endorsement deals with Vitaminwater, Reebok and an unnamed vodka brand; will front a clothing line with Dilligaf and a line of chewable supplements with GNC; has released his own fitness video; and has partnered with Gotham Books to write his autobiography.

Oh, and he also has a "GTL" app and a rap song on iTunes, and has been in talks regarding several big-screen projects.

It's all part of a carefully orchestrated plan. "We are really excited about all the opportunities coming Mike's way," says his manager, Mike Petolino of Gotham Entertainment. "He has been able to secure many endorsement deals, business opportunities and additional television offers based on the success of the show. Our goal has always been to try to build a brand if the situation presented itself."

Ya know, from the day you are born and scream your head off just to get mom's attention, it's readily apparent that life isn't fair. I gotta wonder though, why can't life just stop at not being fair? Why does life always have to kick you in the jimmy when you're not looking and then point and laugh like this?

don't worry dude will spend it doing all the DTF on the GTL on the MLF....

    er something...

and yes the consumer is what drives this, take away the consumer and you will not get this. But people like stupid TV crap and think its great. Its great too seeing I know several people in college (not friends of mine mind you) that try and act like this on a normal night...and then end up working at burger king seeing they failed college because they were too busy "livin' it up off mom and dad's credit cards" then going to class.

seems he's making the most of america's infatuation with his show. Can't blame the man for making the most out of his sudden success.

No, you really can't. I'm not necessarily against that. I mean, opportunity knocked, he just opened the door. It just makes me wonder what made opportunity knock in the first place? I mean he was an assistant manager of a fitness club and even worked as an "exotic dancer".

Reality TV is insane and like others have said, if it wasn't for the general population's infatuation with it, these people would languish away in obscurity like they used to.

I have yet to figure out the whole reality TV deal. I don't get how people could watch that crap but then again a lot of people don't get how I can watch so much sports. My girlfriend says the two are kind of the same thing. How much is A Rod making this year?

He almost certainly will get a nasty disease out of the disgusting hot tub. Guys like this deserve chicks like Snooky, but the level of stupidity and ignorance on this show is somehow hypnotic. Its like pro-wrestling and Jerry Springer had babies. What's next.

I hear you on the reality TV. I remember the first season of Survivor. I was the one person in my group of friends that just didn't get the appeal. People talking about it the next day at work, etc. Blew my mind.

Same with the Real World back when. That's the first mainstream reality show I remember. It's all MTV's fault!

because to some people they have a dull life so they would rather sit in front of a TV and watch someone else with a more exciting life rather than going out and making one for themselves.

    Reality TV smells.:D

I never really did like those Big Brother, etc. shows too much and I don't know why.I feel a little bit like I'm an outsider for thinking that way.

I do like the competition talent shows but think their biased for ratings sake but..I still watch em.:o
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
