Around hear tonight they are having a lot of special events for the book coming out at midnight. I'm thinking of taking my two kids there to see what the deal is. Anyone else?

I guess a place in Indianapolis put it on the shelves today. Damn near feeding frendsy from what I heard. They realized their mistake, and pulled them off the shelves but not before about 100 copies left the store.

I personally am trying to ignore the reports because it seems like people are eager to know what it is about, and the media seems eager to tell us.

No doubt about the media thing. I wish she hadn't mentioned that one thing happening in her interview. I haven't read the books before but I liked the movies quite a bit. Everyone always says how much better the books are, so I ordered all 5 books in hardcover a couple of nights ago. They shipped out today so I should have them early next week. I ordered the UK editions from amazon.ca. Kinda like full screen versus OAR, have to see it as the author intended. ;)

    P.S.
I was not able to go with them because my son crashed watching back to the future.

My daughter picked up a copy at WalMart today. She didn't have to stand in a line to get it either. Last time I looked she had about 1/4th of it read already.

My two sons and I went to Target to get it today. I worked all last night, came home, fed them breakfast then headed over. We got there just as they opened, about ten people in the parking lot, and about 400 books on the shelves, with another 20 full boxes on the floor.

Everyone grabbed a few books each, we grabbed two. A lot of hype, but from initial reports it sounds like it is going to be a very good read.

Beings I have no children I don't understand the hubbub. I have read one of the books, to make myself known, and found it to be simply good reading. I really don't like Harry Potter, and his crew, but the books are basically harmless, and I am sure really cool reading for a younger head. I found it to be on the par of Hardy Boys genre in a way, just our era version of those I guess.

Am I tried of seeing kids in Harry Potter glasses? Yes. Do I find it odd that one can't wait one week for a copy of a book? Yes. Do I laugh at the hardcore Christian left and right complaining that it promotes witchcraft and paganism? Oh my Go......sh yes!! Get a life! I am so not going to get into this religon hoopla, so read on America!!! BUT I have no kids, so my life is unaltered by those events.

    Dorokusai,

I consider myself to be Christian, and I try to go to church once a week, for me and my boys. A little church hurt no one. Now priests hurting people...that is a different thing....;)

Any way, I usually keep to myself, and we go there for us and no one else. So there was this lady today complaining about the book to her daughter. Saying it was the work of the devil...so on so forth.

After ten minutes of hearing about it, I nicely turned around and politely said, "Have you read the Bible?" "You may want to give it one more read if you have not lately. You know Moses talking to a burning bush, Mary and Martha feeding five thousand people with a few loaves of bread and a few fish, Sampson who has to have his hair to be strong, The parting of the Red Sea, oh yeah the most sorcerous story of all, Abraham telling everyone to put lambs blood on their doorways, otherwise their children would die (Hence the holiday Passover). I think you know how that story turned out."

Then I said "All those things are considered a work of God, some call it miracles, and some may call it magic. I really do not think Harry Potter is going to hurt anyone, because if you read it, it is your classic tale about the struggle between good and evil, just like the Bible is." Naturally she was pissed off greatly. My wife and I got up and moved to a different part of the sanctuary.

I probably said to much, and was very sarcastic in my tone, which I try very hard not to be in church, but I am very sick of the ultra "Christians" that love to tear down anything and everything, and yet their lives are no better than your Harley Davidson, whisky drinking neighbor.

    avelanchefan,
AMEN!! No pun intended! Great to see another rational parent out there! I make sure to get involved with my kids when it comes to the Potter books and movies (not to say that it's the only time I talk to them!). Each veiwing of the movie or reading of a new book in the series is prefaced with a discussion of real vs. make believe. Seems to me that alot of adults need to be informed of the differance as well!

    Job well done!
