Amazing stuff. The last few minutes just get more and more interesting. I love how some of the tools are incredibly simple but genius with their application.

    thanks!

That is some major machinery there!!!!!

Just think, somebody had to design it and then make it....

My wife and I realy enjoyed that. Thanks.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

So, I just watched the video again, and what the machinery is actually doing is replacing the railroad ties with new ones. You can see in the beginning that it's tearing up the old and placing the new, while the rails are lifted up off the ground. I'm guessing the rear part of the train is held up by the new track while the front is held up by the old. The center floats free of track to be able to dig the old ties out.

I didn't notice that but I was wondering about the concrete "curbs" as opposed to wood as we had in New England. Amazing stuff.

Yeah, I imagine this machine could be put to good use replacing the creosote-infused chunks of wood we use around here. Why haven't we switched to concrete? No cancer-causing chemicals to leach into the water.

So cool! Probably took months or years before that was invented. Nice find.

I have a friend that works at Union Pacific that I sent this to, he replied back:

"Yea that thing is awesome. UP has one. It's called the TRT or track renewal train. I got to work with it for a month. Pretty badass experience. "

    Looks pretty cool to me.

Wow, that is just so incredible to see the mind-boggling complexity of not only the whole process, but of each step. It's amazing to think someone designed the process and machines to carry it out.

I don't think I'd want the job of putting down the anchoring hardware. Even as slow as it's going, IF your hand get's caught, forget it. It's gone!

I was looking at that, too... especially since they're almost reaching under the platform. I would imagine there would have to be some sort of emergency stop, though.
