I'm a huge fan of System Showcase, but I sure do wish members could leave feedback. I can't tell you how much I've learned from the What's Your System Configuration? on AVS.

Am I the only one?

Maybe if there's enough feedback, Polk will make the addition.

Maybe it's better they don't have comments.

I've seen some pretty wicked showcases, but I've also seen some pretty bad ones (names withheld) with horrible speaker placement and such. I even saw one with 4 front speakers (Polk monitors and not the old ones) that run all at the same time while music is played. Not the best way to listen to music but I guess he/she enjoyed it, and would probably take the criticism as something else. Plus, nobody wants their baby being called ugly :p

    Just my .02

Btw, I would vote NO (without the My system is the best comment) but it's not available :(

    That's true.

I didn't think about it like that...

At the same time, if it were constructive criticism some members (including myself -- leaving the ego at the door) may sonically benefit from the suggestions given.

I guess it all depends. I'm desensitized because my GF calls my system ugly every time she decides to rearrange the living room.

Well, we had one individual ask about speaker placement/etc. and the thread went on for 3-4 pages. He swore 4 speakers up front would sound much better but after awhile we talked him out of it. He didn't take the constructive criticism too lightly either at first.

This already came up once before, so its a safe bet it won't be happening, and that's a good thing.

Not everyone puts their system up to be critiqued by the masses. Some may like their system critiqued, in which case they should start a thread asking for opinions on it.

    Well schucks.

I must have skimmed past that discussion when I did the search.

    I apologize.

(what if there was an option for the posting member to enable whether or not other members could post comments?)

I voted yes in this case. I know I put time and work into my setup, so if anything is screwed up or if there is room for improvement I would certainly like to know. I peep over there at the blurayforum.com and they do something similar to include ratings. I don't really need the ratings, but if someone was to say hey try this speaker here or move this, etc. I would certainly entertain the criticism. We are here to help each other out and enjoy the hobby, so no wrong in that.

Every system in the System Showcase can be improved....however that's not everyone's goal if they've already achieved contentment with their setup.

We have an entire forum with which to ask questions about improvements on an as needed basis. If someone really has to comment on another's gear and/or setup the PM function works just fine.

    Its completely unneeded.

Why does every "new guy" have to suggest some change?

There is an entire forum here as well as access to private messages and even email. If you really want to discuss someone's system with them, contact them individually.

Exactly. Change for the sake of change makes zero sense.

I really enjoyed your "new guy" comment. I'm sure you didn't intend anything negative with this comment, but I think you came off as a little quick in judging someone (me) by the amount of post or the amount of time they've been a contributing member to the forum. I've been reading these forums since 2004, and have only recently contributed because I felt that members here, in comparison to AVS, were open to constructive and helpful discussion (without the ugliness or personal attacks).

I totally respect and understand where people are coming from when they say they don't want their system to be critiqued by the masses. I get it.

Essentially, all of the criticism so far is actually pretty interesting. I definitely didn't foresee such a discussion even taking place. Good stuff.

If you have been reading since 2004, you would know that this has been addressed several times and each time, the decree has come from Polk Audio that you have an entire forum to discuss audio. There is no need for comments sections in the System Showcase.

And yes, "new guy" is an apt term here. Obviously, even though you have been allegedly lurking here long enough to form an opinion about something, it's clear you haven't been paying attention.

I get where you're coming from, but I don't know too many people that read every post within Polk (I simply don't have the time!). I re-apologize for starting a thread that has already been covered.

What I'm having difficulty in understanding, is where the animosity is coming from? It's simply a discussion. No need to use a harsh tone. I think we all have the ability to communicate in a friendly fashion (this is a freakin' Polk forum after all).

I'm not trying to get ugly with you, that's why I gave you the benefit of the doubt in my first response to you (and I still do give you the benefit of the doubt). With this being said, let's just move on and bypass this small bump in the road.

I don't know. There is no animosity on my end in the least and I don't think there's anything wrong with this thread. It would be a bit much to expect someone to know or search for every little thing that has been discussed here in the past.

I was just pointing out this has been discussed before and that Polk hasn't acted on it. :)

It wouldn't bother me at all if they implemented such a thing since I don't even post pictures of my setup here unless I have questions and then I delete the images. Maybe that's being paranoid, but I belong to some forums for other hobbies and such galleries have resulted in their homes being broken into and stuff getting stolen. The potential headache isn't worth whatever jollies I'd get showing off.
