I did not have to do any tweaking in bios to get this speed.I assume this is what turbo mode is clocking it at since it was enabled by default. The only thing I adjusted in bios was to set the memory speed from 1333 to 1600.

New issues: Sometimes in cpu-z the multiplier drops to 26 from 27 for a second or two and core speed drops from 3.6 to 3.4.(Wierd)?

Bus speed seems to be a stable 133.6
QPI link runs at 2400...I have not got my read on about that yet.

From what I have read on reviews of the MSI P55-GD65-is that using the OC Genie should drop a 800 mhz OC with just the push of a button.I have not tried that yet but will do so as soon as I get some more baseline benchmarks scores for comparison.3Dmark06 is averaging 17850.(seems a little low)

Temps:Core average is at 36c no load.
I havnt seen it go over 45c under load yet. The Thermaltake silent 1156 is doing a great job considering the low price.I highly reccomend this cpu cooler.

Ill post some pics later.:D

I would suggest you run stress test and see if it's stable. I would run Prime 95 for 15-20 mins and then post results. If your stable I would check CPU-Z for temps while doing so. You may have to bump voltage just a tad if your not though.

Edit: Zipties are your friend, pull those cables back for even better airflow.

SiSoftware sandra reports that performance will be inconsistant in turbo mode.
All I know for sure is that it boots up twice as fast and game loading is much qiucker.
Ill try OC Genie out after some more testing.
There is no way to make the multiplier go over 22 manually.

    WAHAHAHA!!

    I've run the Thermaltake Silent 1156 before...not a bad "little":rolleyes:cooler.
When doing builds, i still seemed to edge out thermaltake by a degree or two with a zalman but for the $10 difference, the Silent worked perfectly!

3.6 is right where you should be with Turbo.

Excellent build! What programs are you going to be running to even tap the potential of a 4core....DON'T SAY GAMES!! :p
Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

I dont believe I have anything that will use 4 cores. The only time I see all those CPU phase leds light up is in 3dmark06.
All it needs now is the Silver Stone Zeus replaced with the XFX black edition 850watt power supply.
And a new video card of course.Ill stick with the 4890 fer a few more months though.I just may go back to nvidia.

Im very happy with the silent 1156--with temps around 36 idle ...Oh yeah.

The Turbo mode on an i7-870 is 22x+5x, so the CPU will run at about 2.93GHz at stock or 3.6GHz with Turbo. What you should do is actually manually set the multiplier for the entire CPU to 27x--so that all 4 cores always operate at 3.6GHz. Turning off EIST and verify that it's Prime95 stable for 24+ hours (without overheating--I'd consider 60C too high and <50C to be good on air).

Don't bother OCing higher unless you want to push the bclk a bit higher. 148*27 is 4GHz, 163*27 is 4.4GHz. I don't know how well that TT cooler will do--I tend to avoid that brand.

I cant manually set the multiplier. It only goes up to 22.
Ive read somewhere else that EIST should be shut off.As well as a few other bios defaults.

Have got a Manual mode? There's somtimes a round-about way to set the max multiplier as the multi for the all cores.

The max cpu ratio is 22 and I cant get it to go any higher.
And the OC genie is a joke:
It underclocked my memory to 600.
    Set the cpu to 2.93
It did increase the fsb to around 150.multiplier was set to 19.And this did make the PC sweat.CPU temps shot up to the high 50s.WTF..System performance was SLOWER than default setup.

I guess ill try lowering the memory speed and try to get the fsb to level to where the ram gets to around its max speed and hopefully get close to the 3.6 I get with turbo.

I have win 7 pro up and running now and its different....This will take some getting used to.
I also installed another 4 gig set of viperII memory. Now my dram frequency is running around 797mhz.It goes up and down a little and before with just 4 gigs it was pretty stable at 802mhz.I also hooked up the zalman intake fan I had forgotted to hook up before.Thats six fans this thing has, plus 2 WD sata drives plus all the other stuff.I do believe my ZEUS PS is not up to the task.
After I get used to win 7 I will start to tweak the bios.
