Alright, finally found out what tubes are used in the SE EL84 amp I'm getting in a few weeks. The rectifier is 6CA4 and the drivers are EF86.

I just finished looking them up and found out they're actually pentodes. I've never experienced pentode drivers before (only triodes). Can anybody tell me what kind of sound to expect from EF86? They sure look cool.
I know design, room, equipments, etc will effect the sound, but just wondering what the sound is like in general.

Thanks

There are quite a few companies that use them. Quad II uses them as drivers and it seems pretty popular with the DIY crowd. Just not as common as double triodes.
