surround speakers at ceiling level.

Hi guys,
I am planning to setup my surround speakers at ceiling level using the speaker mounts, no other way to get a 7.1 going,

So, is it advisable to put all 4 rear surround at the height of the ceiling, which is about 7ft from listener's ears. Fronts and center are about ear level.

The sofa is about 2ft away from the rear wall and 1 ft from one of the side wall, the other side wall is about 8 ft away, so thats why I had to put a surround Right on the ceiling, which is having me to put all the rest at the same height.

Appreciate any of your expert views. Thanks !

ARe they going to be angled in the direction of the listener or pointing strait to the ground?
Like say will they be in cornors....
If you give us exact placement areas and such it could be easier....
I mean, if they are angled to the listener it may not be an issue but if they are pointed strait down....well...

I will have them on speaker mounts, so I should be able to aim them to the listener.

My concern is the distance of 10 ft for all the surrounds, would that be of any concern, I have polk rm 6750, planning to get poineer VSX-1019AH-K

And, how far apart should the surround backs be from there the Surround Left/rights. I am currently aiming for 3-4 ft.

    Thanks,

Distance isn't the issue. Angles of placement are.

Thanks for the link, really helped to get the positions right.
Typically, seating positions in a home would be two sofas at right angles.
The surround placement always focusses on a single seating postion, what about the rest of the seating areas ?

If a family is watching a movie, its not fair for the Dad (me) to always get the best seating position ..

I have never seen article which says which are the best second or third postions that can experience the same surround.

    any thoughts...

You can't really do much about that. But if you have them up high enough, they should be diffuse enough so that everyone gets the surround effects.
