Polyswitches?

Well I am looking into upgrading my crossover in my Polk Monitor 7 Series 2, and I understand they have polyswitches. When I ordered the RDO-198-1 tweeters to replace my SL2500's, I asked about getting some polyswitches from Polk. I was informed they had none available, but they told me they should be rated at 1 Amp 250V, and I should visit another vendor like parts express to purchase them.

Now my main question is, I do not see a 1 Amp polyswitch there. The closest is .75 or 1.1 Amp. As I understand with regular fuses, it is o.k. to underfuse, but not to overfuse. Is this the same case with polyswitches? Should I go with a lower value, I am not even sure what the trip point would be for the different values?

If someone could educate me on this it would be appreciated. I was even contemplating adding a fuse holder and using a fuse instead of a polyswitch.

If you're not tripping them, remove them and replace with a proper valued resistor. You can find that value by testing the poly you remove.

Don't do that, it's more work than it's worth. If you still feel it's necessary to have the Poly (and some do) then measure it and Parts Express used to carry a wide variety.

I guess I will have to give parts express a call and find out their cuttoff ratings for the polyswitches or find another parts vendor that carries a wider variety. Research makes you learn new things. I'll keep the resistor idea from F1nut in mind if I can not find a satisfactory conclusion.

Wade, have you ever tripped the poly's? If not, you don't need them. However, if you'll sleep better a night, Mouser carries a full line.

If you're not tripping the poly, replace it with a jumper(small piece of wire) or .5ohm resistor from Parts Express.

I may have inserted my foot in my mouth when I started asking about the Polyswitches I was reviewing the schematics tonight I downloaded from the forum. It looks like the Poly's are not in circuit on the M7s rev.2 schematics (showing the SL2500 tweeter) which I am assuming are the correct diagram for the Monitor 7 Series 2 speakers I have. Since mine has the SL2500 tweeter. The Poly's are shown in the M7 rev with the SL2000 tweeter schematic.

I guess I will know more once I pull the crossover out and look at it physically.

I appreciate everyone's input. I apologize for jumping the gun on this one.
