Shipping SDA's?

What do you guys think about shipping SDA 1C's? I'm talking to a fellow Polkie about a possible purchase, although he lives in Indy, I live in Florida. The speakers are in an ad pasted on here, I trust the seller. He's upgraded them on many levels, which I would've done sometime in the future anyway. I know he did a good job on doing the xover upgrades - he's more than qualified with his job description. And they seem to be in pretty good shape. But, I'm worried about attempting to ship them across the country....and, unfortunately, it's getting out of my budget. And, he already has them at a great price (considering all the upgrades). He too is legitimately concerned about getting them packed well enough to avoid damage from the gorillas.

I found a thread recently of a recommended company for shipping large speakers (Team Worldwide). They gave me a quote of about $190 with insurance. Only about $20 more than FedEx.

What are your guys thoughts

BTW, I don't trust "Oops" or FedEx enough for items this heavy.

    Man that a scary proposition.

MAYBE if he removed the drivers and JBed the magnets....

I don't think I would do it, not after previous experience with a set of Lsi 9's

Sounds like you need to take a road trip... after all aren't you hot down there?
    Sounds good to me...

If it was me packing them they would make the trip just fine... You just have to trust the seller doing a fantastic pack job.. I would even pay more for the extra pack job JMHO of course..

I just had some SDA's shipped to me and they would have survived a bomb they were packed so well..

The skill of the packer is key. I had a pair of SDA 2Bs shipped to me, and they arrived looking like a bomb had gone off!!!!

If the Polkie doing the shipping knows what they're doing, and you are willing to pay the cost of doing it right, you should have no problems.

Packed properly, there should be no problem. Freighters and Craters is another company worth checking out. Strapped to a pallet is the best way to ship large, heavy gear. Leave the drivers in place.
