Suggestions for surrounds?

Can anyone make some suggestions for some surrounds for me? I live in an apt., and the living room is rather small. I have 2 RTi28's as mains, a CSi30 as a center and the PSW303 for the sub. I'd like to use a couple of RM2350's (sats that come with the RM6700 set). They sounded pretty good, and I have the mounts already there from the 6700's. Also, the sofa sits right up against that back wall so placing those RTi 28's on the wall makes them look huge. Not to mention going to 6.1 would be impossible, and I'd like to do that. Any other suggestions?

You should look into the F/X series (like the F/Xi30's). Also, last years model (F/X300i's) would work well too......since you have your sofa all the way on the back wall. You can get last year's model at Crutchfield for under $300. Here's the link:

    Black F/X300i's

    White 300i's

I thought about the FXi's, but would also like to add a third rear speaker for 6.1. My room is fairly small and I have a rather large picture right above the sofa, so I think that having 3 speakers of that size is too much. Or, is 6.1 a waste in a smaller room?

I wouldn't go w/ an F/X for your 6th speaker. You should go w/ another RTi28 or CSi30 for that one. Something more direct sounds better for a rear surround.

    Chris,

What I was wondering was if 6.1 is even worth it in a small room? I don't have the room to put 3 bookshelf size speakers on my back wall. So the question is I guess, stay with 5.1 and have the FXi30's, or get 3 RM2350's? Is 6.1 really that much better in a small room?

    Thanks,

    Brian

    Brian,

Honestly, I couldn't tell you for sure. I personally think in a small space it really won't make that much of a difference, especially if the media is matrixed and not discrete (on rare DVD's w/ 6.1). You should just wait till you have a bigger space to put a sixth speaker up. For now though, I think 5.1 w/ F/X surrounds will sound great. Bipolar speakers work great when your primary seating position is on the very back wall. Eventually, when you do get a larger space.....you could put your F/X's on the sides (dipolar) and put two rears up. 7.1 baby!;)

Thanks Chris! I tend to agree with you. I actually left at lunch and bought the FXi30's for $279/pr.! CC pricematched Crutchfield. I can't wait to get them home and try them out. Thanks for all your help.
