Paypal Question

I received a payment today from an Audiogon sale.
Paypal is asking me to verify my Paypal account in order to accept the payment. To veryify my account, I am being prompted to supply / link my Paypal account to a checking / savings account, even though my account is already linked to a credit card....is this normal? I hate to guess....

I tried but got stuck in the death loop. I did find something about this being an additional step to ensure security of blah blah blah on their site, but I figured it was worth researching before just giving up my account info., legit or not. Anyone else need to take this step?

the way that you normally receive the money is by direct deposit into your checking account, without that the only way to use the money is to buy more stuff through paypal. Therefore I have always had my checking linked, but I am not sure why you would need it to verify unless you have never received payments. The deal is that if you spend money and then the buyer files a claim, paypal wants to be able to pull that money right out of your checking account, not from a credit card.

Thanks...makes sense. Another option they give is to apply for the Paypal Mastercard, and then having this Mastercard will verify you. I think I am going to go this route, since I had just closed a different CC and need to open a new one anyway to keep my credit score. :)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can receive payment in the form of a check from PayPal..I think there's a fee of a couple of dollars.

That does not sound right. Contact PayPal before doing that as there are a lot of scam emails going on that appear to be from PayPal, but are not.

You can link your checking or savings to paypal so that way if you pay as a gift you can pay right out of there with no paypal fees.

I remember at one point having to link my check or savings in order to transfer over 500 in a month to my checking from a paypal transaction, but that was it and it was in their site I was told, not through an email.

Closing an account and opening a new one hurts your credit score. You are better off leaving the account open and not using it. Length of time of credit plays a big role in the score. Now you have lost the history and have a card with no history.

they probably still want your checking account info.

did you actually receive the payment; it is in your account when you log in. No e-check waiting to clear, but cash in your account?

    You can request a check.

Don't use any links from an email. Log in directly to Paypal at Paypal.com thru your browser. Too may scams to use email links.

+1.....Never use email links, open up your browser on your own and log into whatever account you want to address.

Very true...but the credit card co. was trying to stick it to me with a higher interest rate OR agree to close the account by a certain date. So, I paid it off and the account was closed automatically.

The Paypal credit card account took literally 30 sec. to be approved online, and I believe having my Paypal acct. linked to this vs. my checking account much safer. Gee, I just hope I can get the money out of the Paypal account without a fee, or I just may need to spend it on power cords :D

It is normal, had to do it myself recently, even though I was already verified through my CC. I assume this was a status message on the actual PP website when logged in?

Sort of...Paypal would not let me 'accept' the payment until my status was verified. After the Paypal credit card app. was approved, everything went through...

    Peace,
    Paul

I get paid into my paypal account only.

I then transfer funds to my checking account fee free. It takes about 3-4 days but I feel safer this way.

I've always done it this way, too. It's easy, inexpensive, and - I believe - safe and secure (at least as secure as anything can be online).

Actually, never mind. I believe that is the appropriate way to get your money's worth. ;)

Apply for a PayPal debit card. They can be used anywhere and you don't pay any "cash out" fees.
