Buying my 1st system which includes: I'll be running 5.1 to start and will add the other two rears later.

Onkyo TX-SR608 7.2
Polk Audio TSi200 (for surround )
Polk Audio TSi400 (Mains)
Polk Audio CS20 Center Channel
Polk Audio PSW10 (sub)

Thoughts on wiring these up and gauge wire to use.:)

How far are your speakers going to be from your receiver?

If it's long (perhaps greater than 15') I'd go with a higher gauge, like 14 or even 12. Once you respond with the information, I'm sure other members will give you better suggestions.
    HT: RTi8s, CSi3, RTi4s, HSU ULS-15, Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH, Sunfire Cinema Seven.
2CH: CJ MF2300, Parasound P3, PS Audio DLIII, Wadia 170i, Music Hall Maverick, Sierra-1s, Sunfire HRS8

The rear wire will be along the baseboard to start about a 30-40ft tops. Monoprice wants me to get 16 gauge.

Get 12 gauge. It will yield better results.
You can pick up a spool of 50 feet for like $14. Get two spools, some wire hiders and such...make it look nice and enjoy the sound.

I have almost the exact set up (PSW505 sub and FXiA4 surrounds), otherwise all the same.

I used 14AWG wire from Monoprice, along with closed screw banana plugs. The 14AWG wire combined with the banana plugs looks real clean, and is performing flawlessly for me. I got a 100 foot roll of the wire for around $17, plugs were under $2 each set.

My rears are a good distance away because I also ran the wires along the baseboard, 100 foot roll was perfect. I had just enough left over, not too much & not too little.

If you go with the closed screw plugs be sure to click on the link Monoprice provides on installing, can be tricky at first. Or of course just write to the forum.

    Good luck!

Here here...I second this persons comments. (Banana plugs are optional)

when i first got my setup, i went with Monoprice 12 awg for each 40ft run for my rear speakers. also got the Monoprice bananas. sounds like you will have a nice lil starter setup.

If you haven't bought the receiver yet, I would suggest the onkyo 707 or comparable other brand. The 608, like my 606, is a dead end receiver!

The 707 is an extra $100 on amazon if you can swing it. I was told that 606 was fine but you can't add an amp if you want to run more power to your speakers to get them louder and clearer. The 608 doesn't have pre-outs (amp hookups).

I probably sound like a numbskull but i am just passing along what was once told to me. :D:D

Unless you like low level volume, you should be fine...............
Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

    ++^

Purchase a receiver that can act as a pre-processor and let you add external amplification at a later date.

Another member here found the Marantz 7002 on Amazon for $599, also check out the Yamaha RX-1900 also ~$599.

IMO both are better picks than the 606/607.
