last night's snake excitement.

Right now, we have a house full of estrogen, and apperently they don't like snakes.

The wife and daughter stayed up last night to play arts and crafts, and woke me up at 2 am to inform me the cat had cornered a snake......in the living room.

Great. I'm thinking rattle snake, and how to evict it without getting bit myself.

So I get up in a sleepy daze to find, sure enough, a cute little baby king snake hiding under the coat tree. It was an easy eviction. I got to go back to bed, and the wimmen probably stayed up all night on snake patrol.

A small bore pistol loaded with shot shells would take care of indoor snakes without doing too much collateral damage.;)

A 3" Taurus Judge* loaded with .410 would do the trick when shooing it out of the house doesn't work.

*This post has nothing to do with firearms.

Oh good grief...just pick the snake up with a stick, broom, rake, etc take it sousside...and quit being such wimps.

Better that than cleaning up a dead snake.

    +1

If I can positively identify a snake as being a non-venomous species I always catch it by hand. It's fun, and I gain a sense of accomplishment by calming it down and making it my "friend".:)

If I see a venomous in the wild I just leave it alone.

I've never seen a venomous snake in my home, but if I did, I would probably kill it.

I have a feeling the cat wouldn't get along with it.

I can just envision the scene. Wife and daughter are up comparing notes on men and the things we do to irritate them when Murphy shows up in the form of a snake and they all of a sudden need a man to handle the problem. ;)

Yellow on black, just a typical king snake around here.

Our black and white cat, Slimmy, used to catch gartner snakes. She'd have one in her mouth, still alive, wrapped around her head. The snake's head oriented in a forward facing direction same as the cat's head.

Cat trying to meow with snake in mouth. We could usually tell when she caught one by the sound of her meow. Snake just wanting to get away. Quite the scene.

If she got in the house, she'd deposit the snake near my shoes. That was pretty exciting if I didn't know she brought one in and went to put my shoes on. :):)

Abby the dog cornered a garter snake last summer....in the bushes in the backyard. After chasing it around a little while, I finally was able to grab it with some welding gloves on. Like the 'rat, I stuck him in a bush in a neighbor's yard.

I had an Eastern Fox snake in my yard earlier this summer that looked for the life of me like a copperhead. A short spade shovel took care of him. had I known he was NOT a copperhead I wouldn't have killed him.
