Cs400
Hey everyone...
I have an offer for a Polk Audi Center Channel CS400 for 70$? Should I be pouncing on this like a cheetah?
I have L/R Monitor 70s and a Yamaha RX-V765 receiver.
Thanks
P.S. It's used, AND, I'm using it for my home theatre setup.

I have a CS400, and I think it is a FANTASTIC center speaker, and a steal at 70 bucks - I got mine for 125 and I thought it was a steal. However, I'm not sure it will timbre match your Monitor 70's - hopefully someone else can chime in !
Good luck!

Monitor 70 specs say to match with a CS2. I just purchased a CS400 for $100 and would buy it again all day long over a CS2 but you have to follow your ears. If it is in decent cosmetic condition and the drivers work, I would give it a shot and see how you like it. You would not be out much money if you don't like it and decide to sell it. The ones I have seen sell in good condition were $100-$150. Look at the dimensions because it is not small so make sure you have a place to put it.

I have the 'i' version and love it. It's a great center, but I think it's more important the center match your front speakers.

For $70 you can try it out and see if you like it. If not, sell it and get something else. It was my first center channel and an excellent performer.____________________________________________________________

Performance Wise, which is better, the CS400 or the CS2?

I use to own the CS1 and thought it was a decent speaker for the money. I now own the 400i and while I paid nearly $100 more for it than the CS1, the upgrade in sound was more than worth it. I agree with the others - buy it and if you don't like it, sell it.Display: Sony 42" LCD

The Cs400 is the better speaker of the 2, if you are only comparing the two speakers based on their own merits. As far as timbre matching is concerned, The Cs2 is of the monitor line, and as such will match your monitor speakers.
Performance wise which is better? Well, the Cs400 has a wider dynamic range, is slightly more efficient, has a heavier build quality, and can be bi-amped. It also retailed for 130.00 more than the Cs2.
So yeah, 70 bucks is a steal. I routinely see these go for 125-200 used. I was lucky enough to find a Cs400i for 60 bucks after a reaaalllly long time of looking, and I wouldn't sell mine for twice that price. My advise is buy it and try it. If it isn't working in your system, you can always sell it for a profit."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Chalk a vote for me on the CS400. You will be surprised at the increase in bass you will hear from the center. At $70 you cannot lose, that is a regular $125 + shipping item.
You may find yourself wanting RT800i's and RT35i 's to complete a whole new 5 channel setup for under $350. LOL at a center leading to a whole new system. I would never do that.System:

Definitely get the CS400 and try to find a good pair of RT800(i)s or RT1000p(i)s and use the 70's as surrounds, if you have the room. The 70's won't be a perfect match to the front speakers but it will be a lot less noticeable if you used the 400 with the 70's up front.Display: Sony 42" LCD

CS400i is the best sub $1000 center channel I've ever heard. The sound it made was exactly like in a theater - crisp and powerful. I only wish Polk made a center of same caliber for LSi series. Polk LSi Center is only good at timbre matching the rest of Polk LSi, but unremarkable otherwise.

If I could find any way for the CS400 to fit in my tv stand I would own one, I actually considered buying new living room furniture to make it fit. I have the CS245 because it fit and I think it sounds great, so I know the 400 is a great buy, especially for that price.
