Picked up a used set of RT12's without any front covers and I'm having a hard time sourcing them. I don't mind doing a custom job, but would love to have (or even barrow) a grill for a template. If anyone has a set lying around or knows of specific dimensions, please let me know!

Cheers

    Hello Bustedguild,
Im rebuilding a set of Polk RT 12's at the moment.I spoke to my local Polk dealer about grill cloth and he told me you cant get the cloth but you can still get the grills new complete.Might be worth giving Polk a call, you might be lucky and be able to pick up a new set.

Let me Know how you get on I might have to end up buying new grills as well if I cant source the right grill black cloth.Im still chasing up some grill cloth and the correct grill clips.Tried Parts Express their stuff is rubbish got an order from them today the Clips are wrong size and their grill cloth is not black more an ash grey.A totally waste of money.Makes you really mad.

Piggy, you can get grill cloth online. Don't worry about it being oem, it just isn't that important.

If I recall, a new replacement set is about $40 from Polk.

    **EDIT**
Never mind-I first read it as RTi12 vs RT12. Still give them a call anyway--you never know.

    Hey , Messiah,
Where can I get grill cloth online that like the original Polk cloth.I just ordered so called black grill cloth through Parts Express and it was crap, not black as advertised and had no weight to it like the original grill cloth. If you do know a place that can sell (Black) grill cloth thats any good do let me know.Im also after 12 speaker grill clips to fit the RT 12.Seems the Polks use an odd size.around 8mm or 3/8 inch.I have sent off asking for samples from a few people that sell on ebay.Ive got 5 speakers I want to re grill and need them to match the other Polks I have.

I'll look it up for you piggy, or google grill cloth. I'd skip trying to find clips, and just make them magnetic. That would be a cool upgrade, as you know they aren't gonna break again

    Thanks Messiah,
I got a catalogue from Parts Express with my bits and pieces and they have advertised a diffrent black grill cloth, suppose to be blacker and thicker than the rubbish they sent me.Its a new line.So I have sent them off an email to tell them Im sending the crrap grill cloth back.

The new cloth is called Mellotone Premium black grill cloth more than twice the cost of the cheap ash grey rubbish they sent.Cost $24.50 per yard. They have made a note that it is guaranteed to be the blackest shade of black. At least its made in the USA and not China.I still want to hunt down the right size grill clips.I dont like the magnets or velcro, prefrence I suppose.

I just picked up some cloth at the local fabric store (Joann Fabrics) to recover my 2B's.

    mmadden28,
How did you go with the recover of your 28's ?.What glue did you use?.Did you use that 3M 44 spray glue ?, I hear the 3M stuff is suppose to be the right stuff.

I got an email from Polk CS, they dont carry the RT 12 grills complete or the grill cloth anymore. They do carry the grill clips part number RF9905-1.If your after new cabinets they dont have those anymore either.

Any idea how to remove the Polk badges off the grills with damaging the badges.

2B's as in SDA 2B's (not 28s). Actually I used what Polk originally used staples. They had a bazillion staples in there to begin with and it was quickly evident that I wasn't going to be able to pry them out, so I just cut the old fabric as close to the staples that I could. Then put the new fabric on and stapled it down. Of course I had to choose a fabric that was a pain to work with in that if I pulled it at a different tension then right next to it it would show. But in the long run I'm happy with the result. I tooks pics of the progress but haven't had the chance yet to post a thread on it.

If I were gluing I'd probably use that 3M spray glue, but I haven't looked that far in to a regluing process yet.

As far as the badges, take a small screwdriver to the little fastener blade on the back of the badge--you need to slightly pry up one of the biting teeth on the blade so it can slide off. You can bend the tooth back for reuse. I think you can get new ones from Home Depot as well.
