I am getting hit by that 'upgrade' bugs here. I wanted to look for something better than what my current speakers are.

One of the candidates is Salk Songtower but to find the used with the black enclosure is really hard as there are not many people selling it in the used market.

I am also considering to get Dynaudio as I like that their speakers are rather laid back and warm. Any suggestion which model should I get for under $1200? Any big difference between bookshelf vs tower speaker?

Tower speakers give you more of everything over bookshelves.

I have listened to Dynaudios Focus 220 towers & they are fantastic.

Please note that the majority of their speakers are 4ohm, you would need seperate amplification to get the most out of them.

I love dynaudio. I have been looking for a good deal on a used pair of towers in the focus/contour lines.
The problem is I like my audience 70s so much I dont know if I can part with them :*(
They might be 10 years old but they are in great shape and sound awesome!

Yeah, I have eyed on that Focus 220 as well but again, there is not much in the used market and I also do not see many in dark color except cherry I believe. I do have an XPA-5 currently and Krell Showcase as my processor but I am selling my Krell and thinking about getting Marantz 7002. Do you think the Marantz 7002 alone is enough to run the Focus 220? Or do I still need the XPA-5 to make it sing?

Also, do you know if the Focus 220 has to be placed like 2 feet from the walls or is it ok if placed near the walls? I wonder how is the Focus 220 compared to the Songtower though....as the Songtower has such a good review but again I am kind of leaning towards European speakers as American brand usually tends to be a bit bright on their tweeters. What do you think?

What Dynaudios have you heard? I would not consider Dynaudios as laid back.

The only one I have heard is the Audience 52. I like Dyn's treble as it is not bright and yet very detail and forwarding. That's my impression of Dyn's speaker. Also I have heard their car audio line which I really like with their Esotar tweeter, very easy to listen and not fatiguing to ears for long listening.

You should definately keep the amplifier, again they are 4ohm speakers just like the LSI's. They NEED power.

Most speakers sound better when pulled away from the wall.

When I listened to the 220's I didn't find them bright at all. They may very well be my next set of speakers.

    Cfrizz,
Yeah..I think Dynaudio's tweeter is awesome. I see an Audience 82 on Agon and wondering how this one stacks up to Songtower. Do you think I should go with Dynaudio or Songtower? Dyn is Danish speaker and ST is American speaker. I just can't see any bad reviews about the ST but for Dyn Audience 82, do you think it is comparable? I am kind of leaning to the Danish speakers but I know that the ST is easy for placement meaning it does not have to be placed far from the walls. Not sure about the Dyns..??

Have you been able to hear the ST? Buying a speaker on review's is iffy in my opinion. That is unless you can send them back if you don't like them. Just me, but I've never bought a speaker unless I heard it first, SDA excluded :D You've got to hear them in your room with your gear without the pressure of a saleman hovering over you.

Towers and bookshelves each have pro's and con's. They both take the same amount of space when taking the stands into account. But, you may need a sub to support the bottom with the sub taking up a bit more area.

Then again, When I listened to the DynAudio Confidence C1 BS, I didn't think it needed a sub for two channel play. HT, yes.

I have never heard the other pair so I can't answer that question.
