Had the pleasure of seeing him play many times while in NYC..........

Parliament and Funkadelic guitarist Phelps 'Catfish' Collins has died at the age of 66.

The musician passed away on Friday in Cincinnati, after losing a long battle with cancer, reports Rolling Stone.

Collins shot to fame as a member of the funk scene in the 1960s and '70s, performing with soul legend James Brown.

His younger brother and fellow musician Bootsy Collins has paid tribute to the star, saying: "My world will never be the same without him. Be happy for him, he certainly is now and always has been the happiest young fellow I ever met on this planet."

    Great musicians.

Check out filmmaker Yvonne Smith's One Nation Under a Groove. You may be able to catch it on your local PBS station as a part of their Independent Lens Series. The filmmaker also did a groundbreaking doc on Miles Davis for Great Performances.

Hasn't been a good time for P-funk vets lately. Star Child passed away last month.
