Been awhile since I have been on here, and figured I'd update you guys to a "situation" I had a few weeks ago. My trusty Onkyo TX-SR806 had apparently fallen victim to the infamous "blue dot issue" that has plagued earlier models of the 806 and I was planning on sending it in for repairs to Huppins HiFi here locally. Long story short, I brought it and my Monitor 10's to a wedding reception at a friends house a few weeks back so we could enjoy some tunes. I was doing 100 things at once and didn't realize I had crossed my wires on my 10's. Fired up the 806 and turned up the volume. Didn't hear anything so I pointed my remote through the window and tried to turn the volume up. Not realizing where the volume was at, I eventually turned it up too high and put my 806 in protect mode!! Rookie mistake, I know, but my head wasn't fully in the game since I was doing so many other things at the same time. As far as I can tell my 10's escaped the ordeal unharmed, but won't know for sure until I get my 806 back and test them out. The fuses are good and there was no poping noise from them when I clipped my 806. My 806 was in protect mode and I couldn't get it out, so I called around locally to get it fixed. The only place in town that was authorized to repair it (Huppins), no longer is so I had to box it up and ship it to DTR in Denver Colorado. They were the next closest repair facility to me, according to Onkyo. My 806 is still covered under the manufacturer's 2 year warranty, and I bought the 5 year extended warranty as well, so I am good there. I called DTR to let them know I was sending them my 806 for some repairs (HDMI board will fix the blue dot) and they said it would be covered under warranty as long as there was no physical damage or signs of liquids being spilled inside the unit. I try to take good care of my stuff, and other than some scratches on the back panel from removing and reconnecting some HDMI cables, the unit is in perfect condition. I sent it out a few weeks ago, and haven't heard anything back yet, so I am going to call them and see what progress they have made. Never thought I would have all my speakers just sitting there in my living room and just have to stare at them, lol. I have my PS3 hooked up straight to my TV now and man does it sound terrible, lol. Anywhoot, just thought I would let you guys know, and I will update you when I hear something, it is lonely without my 806!!

Thanks for the offer Mike, I wish I had another one too, but money kinda dictates that, lol. Buying that 806 two years ago was a pretty good chunk, but I used some money I had just gotten from a deployment to offset the cost.

That sucks, Jeff. If you were closer I'd loan ya a spare. Always good to have backup.
Plus 1 on both counts, though I am a fine one to talk as all my eggs currently sit in one basket as well. Hope you get up and running soon.:)The Gear... Its normal for those big repair facilities to take a few weeks to even look at your unit. 6 week turnaround is common.
That is the very reason why I always keep a cheap 2-ch receiver stashed away in a closet as a spare. I don't like listening to TV speakers!
Hopefully they get back to you soon. Waiting is hard. If you have time, check your local craigslist. You might be able to find an older AVR or 2-ch receiver for $50 or so. If you can find something like that, that can be the one you take out to events (like the wedding reception). -

LOL, very good advice Bill.

It got stuck in protect mode? Most likely you blew an output transistor, as Onkyo's can usually go into protect without any issue and reset fine unless it was a serious condition like the speaker wires were shorted, etc.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Wow, sorry to hear than bud. If you know anyone going from Seattle to Spokane, let me know. I have a Carver 2-channel Receiver you could use

Good to see you back Jeff. Sorry about the Onkyo. Seems like the season for accidents and failures.
Actually, NOW might be a good time to start thinking about a two channel integrated for those M10s if you can swing it. Will give you some tunes and allow you to run the M10s after you get the Onkyo back.
A used Cambridge Audio 550/640/650 or NAD C325 or higher would do you, or maybe an Onkyo A9555? I third the idea of lending you an AVR...but, unfortunately we're a coast away. However, if you get desperate and it takes forever to get the Onkyo back...maybe we can work something out?
kcoc321's offer is also a great one...it would be nice with the 10s!

Thanks again for the offers guys, I appreciate it. While it wasn't the reason behind the thread, it's nice to know you guys are willing to help a guy out, lol. My wife and I have a friend that lives in Seattle, and if she comes to Spokane in the next few weeks or so, I will probably take you up on your offer kc. Good to be back C, it was a little vacation while my eye got "better". I got a phone call from DTR today and they said that my 806 was looked at and parts are on order, it will take 5-7 days to get the parts from what they told me. I'm assuming a few days, week tops to fix it up, and another week or so for shipping back. So, I'm looking at atleast another 3 weeks until I get my 806 back
Money is real tight now C, and while I have been scouring Craigslist for deals, the kids are going back to school and it's time to go back to school shopping for 3 teenagers, lol. While I miss my tunes and movies, gotta have my priorities straight, lol. The good news is that it is going to be covered under warranty, so I won't be out anything for the repairs. Thanks again guys, like I said, it's nice to know that there are still some good people out there.

Does your Cd player have varable output controls? Now might be a great opportunity to upgrade/ get a separate amp "so you can have tunage"
