I never really had a decent sub. Seems like a good deal, so I just ordered 2 505's
-
I have 2 - 505's hooked to a Yamaha RX-V3900, they'll do the job well.

Did you have one and then add another, or start with 2? I'm thinking about adding another one and want to know if it will really make that much of a difference. I don't see how it could hurt -
That's all i needed to hear haha.

Hi Brandon. How big is that room again? I would thik two 505s would pressurive a medium-sized room quite nicely. By the way, pulled the trigger on that pre-amp - I will have it Saturday and let you know how it sounds. Gonna hang on the the UPA-2 for now...
Have a good weekend man. Lunch almost over gotta get back to work...Polk LSi-9s and Micropro 2000 sub

Had one 505, 11 feet away from listening position under a desk to start, it was good.
But due to room configuration and obstructions I added a second that is 5 feet from my head, raised of the floor 1-1/2 feet and it helps fill all the area of the room and kicks it really well. Like for music Crystal Method's Vegas it pounds out the bass smoothly.
In short for me 2 - 505's are better. In an open area 1 will sound really good and 2 stacked, better and stacked seems to the normal configuration for 2 like xcapri79 said -
It's about 25x25, minus 2 dormer things. It's a funny shaped room. I definitely think i need to add another 505, but first i'm going to get a new AVR or add a 2 channel to my 1909. Man this hobby is going to get expensive haha, at least I gave up motocross so the wife can't get too mad.

Buy,sell, trade, upgrade, buy, sell, trade, upgrade. Expensive and addictive but fun. I had the PSW505 and it is a great HT sub. Especially at that price. If you get two put on some Floyd's "welcome to the machine" and crank it up and watch the pictures on the walls rumble:DHT System

I listened to Pink Floyd's echo's this morning actually. Speaking of the 505 i finally ran my audyssey from all 6 locations yesterday, since i'd moved some speakers and had to replace a center tweeter and moved my sub out of the corner a little. Anyways, the sub sounded better than ever except for when i play call of duty or if there's an explosion sound in movies, it now all of a sudden bottoms out really bad. Even my wife noticed and asked if I changed something on the sub. I tried turning it down, and lowering the crossover (didn't help) but i didn't want to move it and have to run the setup again. Any suggestions? -
What is your Audessy setting for the sub? There is a known problem with the Audessy setting for the sub. I had to increase mine from the setting of -10db to 0db. I don't believe the placement of the sub is the problem but maybe the Audessy setting. Also check to make sure your sub cable connection did not come loose when moving.HT System

Well, after reading the reviews and taking into considering the price of Newegg's deal, I went ahead and ordered one of the 505's.
I've got a few cats in the house and a few of them have claws. They aren't known to claw at furniture or anything, but looking at the pictures it looks like the cover is cloth on this sub correct? Does it matter what angle I face the sub? I mean I can keep the cats off of it by putting it close to a wall with the front of the sub facing the wall.
If that doesn't work or will mess up the sound quality my only other option to not tempt them to claw is removing the cover I guess.
I've got an Onkyo receiver with pre-sub out that I'm currently using. What cables will I need to order for this thing? Will the crappy one that came with HTIB sub work or should I get something different? -
505 or dsw pro 600?

Also, when u guys say stacking, you literallymmean one on top of the other?

SUBWOOFER CABLES:
High-quality Coaxial Audio/Video RCA CL2 Rated Cable - RG6/U 75ohm (for S/PDIF, Digital Coax, SUBWOOFER & Composite Video)
the second group down
High Quality RG6 Digital Audio 24K Gold-Plated Cables w/ Fancy Connector
from Mmonoprice.

I use a 15' & a 50' High-quality Coaxial Audio/Video RCA CL2 Rated Cable - RG6/U 75ohm (for S/PDIF, Digital Coax, SUBWOOFER & Composite Video)
I wouldn't use any old HTIB wires.
CATS:
U could try towards the wall cause there is a slot port on the back bottom, but the PSW505 is front firing, should really be 1 to 3 ft away from the wall and sides facing towards the listening area. I have two in two opposite directions either side of the room one on the floor and one 1 &1/2 feet off the floor, my set up is unconventional. So U do what U gotta do & try to get it to sound the best U can, by trial and trial
Stacking, yes one on top of the other, both same direction, never tried 2 different directions.
I would probably opt for 2 different room locations and so they don't cancel each other out so I've read, mine don't cancel it just sounds a lot better, BOOOOOOM!
And of course, some use 4 Subs in stead of one. And a wall of subs would be mind numbing. -

Yes,i have seen posts where polkies are saying that stacking the subs sounds better. I wonder how many here that have two subs are stacking them? Maybe that is something I should try though I would not really like the looks of it but if it was a noticeable improvement I might considerHT System

Getting ready to place an order for that right now. I'm running all my Monitors on 16AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker Wire from Monoprice, but do think I should upgrade the wire to 12AWG or do you think I'll be alright with the 16AWG? -
I use the same,
Product ID: 2794
16AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker Wire Cable - 300ft
I bi-wire so that doubles the copper cost.
It's OK for runs at 8 ohms less than 50 feet.
50 to 75 ft 14 ga
75 & up 12 ga
If your at 8 ohms and less than 50 feet , save your money.
Here's a chart:
http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm
I've read where some say it sounds better with short runs 12 or 14 ga, but I've done that and not noticed a difference.
To small a gauge & less ohm's creates resistance and heats up your AVR amp, you don't want to do that, it'll shorten it's life or lock it form heat. -
My pair of 505's came today. WOW! they're friggin HUGE!!
-
IMO, the 505 is a great deal. It shakes my place violently. I am only able to push it half way. I do live in Military quarters, so one could question the build quality of my Apt.. My only regret is I had to pay 95 smacks to ship it to Germany. But, bang for buck it is great.Troy_B.
