Collecting old books

About a week ago while watching "The Wolfman" (2010) I noticed that in the Talbot's home there were lots of books stacked everywhere. So, adding to the theme in my house I wanted achieve that same look.

I started searching ebay and have won several auctions, with some books delivered already. All the books I am buying are dated pre-1920's and are in good condition.

One book, a collection of poems, came with a very old piece of paper slipped between the pages, a poem addressed to President Lincoln, pretty cool. It's really kinda neat flipping through pages of books that are from the early 1900's.

The best part, they look good and really add to the theme in the living room.

Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

If reading books were like reading through forums on the internet, I'd be doing so much better in college.

My grandpa enjoys doing the same. He has a massive archives of old books. Pretty cool.

I have no plans to read them. I'm buying them for decor purposes only.

Who wants to read books, anyway? That's time taken from CP. Good plan.

You should give reading them a try. My most prized possession is my library...thousands of books...not necessarily 'old' looking but the wisdom of the ages and a lot of fun on a rainy afternoon...or a quiet evening with some tunes in the background. Each book is its own world (the world the author lived in, saw, experienced). They're what films were before they existed. And can have a calming and satisfying effect.

I started collecting books when I was in Elementary school. In the course I developed a lot of interests and they affected my career choice as well.

    Enjoy!

Your clock seems to be out of synch. You should send it to me for indefinite repair.

    Looks good though!

That's way cool. I do stuff with old books too. It's great to decorate and some old books are, like, really collectible. Say an early edition of Isaac Newton's Principia

Oliver or Peter (I can't remember) asks "Which three books would you have taken?"

    I love that question.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Room looks very nice. You should read one or two though, could be interesting afterall.

Edit: Also didn't know you were near Dana Point. I stayed at the Double Tree right off the exit there while I was doing JD TRAM Training with the Marines on Pendleton. May have to try and do lunch with you. Some awesome Seafood restaurants right around the corner there. Loved that area.

I've got some like that, about 100 years old. Shakespeare, etc. Maybe I should put them up on the flea market?

We had this discussion about a year ago.....we've got crap books, worthless I.T. books, she bought all the Harry Potter books for gods sake! but those oldies with ambience, she wanted to do away with. Honestly no idea where they went.

+1, although literacy is overrated these days I guess.

Hey, man, update. I started thinking about those books, and recalled we actually gave them to my son, who liked the coolness factor also. Want me to hollar at him and see how he feels about turning loose of some.....?
