I think I did a little better this time. 268 pieces, but I had to give $1.50 each. This was one of those..A friend of a friend whose father died 6 or 7 yrs ago and it was time to clean house, types of situations.

My friend calls me and says.."Hey, I know we were talking about Floyd, Zappa, Zepplin, etc... the other day. I have a friend........". My friend and I met up today and went to the guys house. He had it all boxed up and in the living room waiting on me. Well, long story short, I think I got a pretty good deal considering what I got. I included a couple pics, but I think that maybe the best is the first pic both volumes of The Essential Jimi Hendrix. Volume two even has the sleeve on the front with the pristine Gloria 45rpm.

The second has pics of a stack of Aerosmith,Animals, Zeppelin, Zappa, Ian Hunter, Cream, Robin Trower, Uriah Heep. This lot was full of good stuff. Floyd, Montrose, Doors, Jeff Beck, Godz, Judas Priest, John Lennon, Guess Who, George Harrison, Steppenwolf, Bowie, Sabbath, Rainbow, etc...

This might be old hat to you guys that have been collecting for years, but me, I am doing the happy dance!

check the deadwax on the Zeps,, 2 and 3 IIRC and see if they or any of them have "sterling" stamped in the deadwax.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

And/or the initials RL. Those would be Robert Ludwig masters and are very desirable. I have a Houses of the Holy with RL in the deadwax and it's by far the best sounding copy I've ever heard.

Great score either way!!! Well worth the $1.50/per.

    On II I see...ST-A 691672-Y

    III has ST-A-702006-H

    Don't see a Sterling anywhere
I need to find a book on this stuff. Now that I am obtaining the stuff I want, I need to find out which are the best.

I checked my Zep Houses of the Holy... I have the RL and Sterling marks on mine.

Check ALL of the marks. Mine appeared oposite the numbers you mentioned Tim.

On the Steve Hoffman forum search for Robert Ludwig masters for a thread that has a very comprehensive list of many of Ludwig's vinyl masters. I've got quite few of them (mind you I have nearly 2000 records) and most, but not all, are the "go to" versions to have. That being said almost anything remastered by Classic Records trumps all, including the whole Zep catalogue.

I was given a hendrix BOG with RL/Sterling in the deadwax--vs other pressings of the time,it is easily the best.

thanks guys--actually it was given to me by another polkie--jerryj12--what stands out to me with the sterling RL's is that the vocals are usually much cleaner, bass is fantastic,,just a much sweeter sounding recording than my previous copies.

Still nothing John. I guess I will have to keep a lookout for another copy.

Looking through some of the boxes I just got, I do see lots of other stuff with the "Sterling" mark though. Some with...
    Sterling
    Sterling and RL
    Sterling WH
    Sterling and Wally
Sterling in both stamped and hand written
    Masterdisk
    Masterdisk RL
    Mastered by Capital
    Mastered by Liberty
    etc...
