wires for 6750 and any additional help

hi -total beginner but have to start somewhere, so here goes. i have just gotten a denon 591 avr and am planning to purchase the polk 5.1 6750 surround system. reviews are great and the cost is, too. any thoughts on what type of wires to use, wall mounts, how many hdmi cords i might need( have blu ray and a sony bravia and a pss 3 for my son). thx so much for any help in advance:)

    Welcome to the Polk Forum. Ah, this brings back memories, let's see if I can still remember what I used to type.
    Use good quality speaker wire to connect the left, center, right and the two surround speakers to your receiver. Then use a good quality shielded RCA cable to go from the receiver's sub-out to either the right or left line level input on the sub-woofer (either one functions the same). Then go into the receiver's setup menu and raise the sub-out crossover frequency to 120Hz and turn the "sub-out" function to "on". This is necessary because the RM6750 satellites have a built-in high pass filter limiting their response to 120Hz, so the sub can match this crossover frequency.
    You can set the receiver's programming to front, center and surrounds as "large" (they have built-in high pass filters). If you tend to play your system at fairly high volumes (someone sitting beside you would have to raise their voice to be heard) then set the receiver's setup to "small" and pick the lowest frequency setting, usually 40Hz. If you hear any "cone breakup" (a lack of control in the lower mid range sounds) raise the crossover frequency to the next setting level and listen again. The goal is to not have any lack of control over the way low frequencies sound and a smooth, transition-less blending among the front speakers and the sub.
    As to your HD digital connections, any source device will need a good quality HDMI connecting cable. Other guys on the Forum can advise on those choices.

    No problem. That was a very popular question when I worked for Polk in customer service. With a little care the RM6750 can be a terrific speaker.

    i do have one question as i re-read your great instructions. how do i go into the receiver's set-up menu? will this be self explanatory? does this show up on a screen....tv??
    again ,i appreciate your time. my last exposure to dealing with a receiver was in 1982....i think a lot has changed since then. we didn't hav emenus, etc.

    Hello,
    Probably the receiver's owner's manual will be helpful in programming the receiver. Look for "calibrating your system" or "setup menu" in the manual and you should be fine. It is even possible your particular receiver will have a type of auto-calibration capability. Here again the manual should go into this.
