Vintage vs new mid-woofers

I tried doing a search on this question, but couldn't find much... I have a MW6503 that I'd like to replace from a pair of 2B's. I know Polk has new 6503's available, but it seems like people still prefer to buy the vintage ones (even at some pretty crazy prices). So, I'm wondering why that is.

There's only two 6503's in the 2B's so I could replace them both if it's an issue of the replacements sounding a noticably different from the vintage. I was just wondering if the new ones are somehow inferior to the old ones.

If anyone has any opinion on whether it's worth the search instead of just getting new drivers I'd be interested in hearing the pros and cons. Thanks!

Grab the vintage drivers, there's a reason why people still use them or buy them when they need them for their vintage Polk's :)

Edit: Morning for me, I read that wrong. Wasn't aware that Polk sold new drivers of that model, but I'd expect used/vintage to go for less than new. If you're wanting to buy new anyway directly from Polk, mention that you're a forum member...think you get a small discount!

I have used both with good results. If need is immediate call Polk and then look for a vintage driver to replace out the new driver then you have a spare.

The rubber surrounds need to be cut out of the new MWXXXX. The rubber goes all the way to the screw hole and when you snug the screw the rubber bunches up around it.

As for the sound I can not comment on that.

They do look a slight bit different as well.

Looks like I got a line on a vintage one locally from a fellow CP member. Gotta love Club Polk!! Thanks for all the input.
