Pic #1 is spare bedroom idea --- wall you walk into the room will be the white looking color - the side walls will be the olive green

Pic #2 is master bedroom idea -- wall you would walk into the room will be tan and the side walls will be red

One thing I've personally never been a fan of is different colored walls within the same room. It takes the focus off everything in and about the room and puts it directly onto the one wall.

If you do it, find colors that are similar and avoid the dramatic contrast like in those pics above. Also, stick with earth tone colors, there easier on the eyes then neon colors.

    I see your point --

One thing that will be different in those rooms vs. the pics is a real dark wood floor vs. carpet

and the furniture will be on the brown/black sides - kind of like a wenge.

I definitely want to do different colors -- so any thoughts on some color combos?

I agree with Ron-P, stick with earth tones. I've seen some homes where the walls were painted in the most horrible colors. The owners think it nice and unique, but everyone else just thinks WTF.

Also just paint one accent wall.

    Just my opinion.

I like the Olive, I think that may be the next repaint of my bedroom. I do not think the red would help put me in a sleeping mood.

I notice that this was Behr paint. I have painted my current house in Benijamin Moore Pottery Barn colors, they have some good ideas.

The examples you gave are kind of trendy, which I like, if you do not want to paint agian in a few years or plan to sell, than yeah take the others advice and go Earthtone.

Also, even with good paint the super vibrant colors take a lot of work. I actually painted a closet orange and it took 5 coats to get it to look even. The accent wall thing goes in and out of fashion, but I think it can look good if you can break up the color field with somestuff on the wall (like wall art, china hutch, 1.2TL's).

I do love the Behr paint though... seems to be the most forgiving of the various brands I've tried.

Yeah - I plan to live here a very long time, been working on the house for a over a year - so yeah.

If I do go with the above colors, all of the dark colors will have stuff on that wall - TV's - Beds,

As far as bright paints being hard - yeah my den took about 10 coats with primer

My kitchen is a deep orange with dark, almost black cabinets. Looks fantastic.

I'm a firm believer that the bedroom should have restful colors. Bringing down the color intensity makes for a calmer more relaxing space. I've probably painted every room in my current home twice in the past four years, using a lot of darker and lighter shades of the same color (1/2 strength).

I would comment but my thoughts are the exact opposite if what's been posted.

BTW, my bedroom at my parents house the entire time I was growing up was orange. It was awesome! The furniture was all dark wood and it contrasted well.

Oh and earth tones? Really? How bland. My living room is mostly tan with red accent walls. They don't draw any eye or attention and, in fact, they honestly make the room look bigger. The spare bedroom is a medium green throughout. Nice, bright color in a room with only one outside facing wall. Really utilizes the spares light without being boring.

The bathroom is a mustard color and it's bright which is good 'cause the floor is a dark slate. It'd be a cave without the bright color. Also, all my floors are a medium oak color. Well, red oak but it's fairly dark.

The bed room has a medium bluish-gray with dark furniture and the red oak floors. Came out real nice.

As far as what you want to paint it, it's your house, dude. What everyone else thinks doesn't matter.

The only advice I will give is make sure that if you are using accent walls, you use colors with bases that don't clash. The tan in my living room has a red base and it works with the red walls with a red base very well. To see what I mean, grab as many color swatches as you can and look at them under a bright light. Some reds will look almost faintly purplish and they have a blue base. Like tans, some will be muted and kinda gray. That's a blue base. Other tans will be vibrant and warm, those are red bases. Typically, a single color card will have 2-4 colors with the same base but different hues. They compliment each other.

You know what? Go to the paint store and talk to the paint dude. He can esplain it better than I can.

I just got back from Home Depot --

I basically did the green one, but the darker green is about 4 shades lighter so its not so drastic - that was just a guideline after all.

The hallway is two shades of blue --

Not painting the master yet since it is not ready

I also used Benijamin Moore paint in my place. Everyone has different taste when it comes to color. When it came time for me to pic colors,I based my decisions on a couple of things, what is the ambient light and what is the fuction of the room. For example, in my tv room I picked a darker color and in my kitchen and computer room I picked a lighter color. I chose to go with solid colors in all rooms and painted the 150 year old trim in white.
As far as shade of color it was just a crap shoot as I find looking at color swatches difficult.

Here are some picks of what I did.
