Newegg has just advertised on there website what looks like a great deal. The new Monitor 70 Series II (Black) with coupon is only 179 Bux each . Looks like an amazing deal.

My son recently got the Monitor 40's as fronts and the monitor 30's as rears the PSW10 sub and the CS1 series II center. These 70's would be killer for fronts for his set up not to mention they would match his center speaker. :)

Am really tempted to pull the trigger as reviews on the monitor 70's are very good.

If you go with the Monitor 70's, you will soon find yourself looking at the CS2 center. What receiver/amp are you running?

I think the OP is still shopping-searching for the best Onkio candidate (unless already found and purchased?).

BTW, welcome to CP hertz9753 (I realize you've been looking around for a long time but you found the courage to go ahead with post #1  ) :)

Have been debating on the acquisition of an Onkyo 608 or 707 but low and behold my brother recently purchased a new pioneer Elite receiver and has shelved his Pioneer Elite ( circa 2007). He is now making me/my son an offer we can not refuse. I do not know the model number but my son will pick it up on Friday.:o

You can't go wrong with Pioneer Elite (especially at a good deal), IMHO much better than Onkio anyway. Now, since you are both saving in the deal, you don't have any excuses and can provide him with the Monitor 70s, right ;)

BTW, thanks for posting this deal and how do you get the coupon for this deal?

My pleasure as a Newbie to bring any info of value to you veterans.

And your comment is so on the money. The money saved on a receiver can be well spent on the monitor 70's.

the code is on the link I posted......but I see Mole is way ahead of me.

I tried to test this out in preparation to order....tried to place order for 2 speakers on one form but only got a discount of 70 bux. To get the discount for 2 speakers (140 bux) do you have to submit two separate orders for 1 speaker each?

Whats the deal? I am a Newbie but not an idiot.

Am wondering if it is a better deal as Newegg is selling the Monitor 70 series II and JR is selling the original series.

Other than the cosmetic difference of Silver vs. Black is there any advantages in technology/build/components between the two?

Or is this a bunch of creative marketing by Polk/Newegg?

Called JR and got the same deal, 320$ shipped.

As for the question re quality of build. It is the exact same speaker, just a different finish (a scheme to get more profit)

So there you go, I'm not very fond of newegg at the moment. They frustrated me on a few orders. Good thing I held back, now I got an amazing deal.

    Thanks

You guys are making me drool. I know these as fronts will blow away the monitor 40's.

Did you guys order over the phone to get the discount or did they give you a special promo code to use for placing your order on the net? And If I may ask how did you approach them on the phone? Did you mention Polkaudio.com?

Sorry for all the questions but I am a Newbie.

Call them on the phone and say if they give you a better price you'll buy immediately.

They will say the best price they can do is 160$ each.

Then you accept - and enjoy your new speakers.

As per polk audio, the CS2 is the matching center.

Look for it on newegg, it was down to 130$ a few days ago. I'm sure it's going to be lower soon. Just keep an eye out and snatch it like the monitors.

My monitors arrived today - and boy are they huge. I'm extremely excited.

My son confirmed speakers arrived this afternoon. He is toooooo happy. Huge boxes but he has yet to open it as he traveled to pickup the Pioneer receiver from his Uncle. And Oh Man this receiver is a sexy and an Elegant beast. In excellent condition.

Am hoping it will be a great match for the monitor 70's, monitor 40's and monitor 30's in the rear. CS1 center and PSW10 Sub.

Check it out! Would love some feedback

I got my Monitor 70's yesterday. One had a faulty tweeter. Not to sweat though, I gave Polk a quick call and they sent one out within minutes via Fedex. Should be sometime mid-next week.

Brandon, How did you notice the tweeter problem? With your eyes on inspection or your big ears?

Brandon, How did you notice the tweeter problem? With your eyes on inspection or your big ears?

These speakers have very nice highs making it super obvious right from the start. One speaker sounded superb, the other ..could barely reproduce vocals due to the lack of tweeter. There is no static or anything, it's just silent.

Based on the sound from the fully operational speaker though, I'm very excited and eager to get this tweeter problem fixed and get to rockin'!

Upon noticing the tweeter not working, I googled "Monitor 70 tweeter" and got a few replies of tweeters blowing when cranking these with an AVR. Will my Onkyo TX-SR608 handle these sufficiently? I know for a fact, of course, not as good as an Amp but as the 608 doesn't have a pre-out, that kind of cancels that option out for me until I upgrade. I knew that the 608 didn't have a pre upon purchasing but for the $250 shipped I paid from Newegg at the time...it really wasn't a hard choice comparing to what I came from (some older Pioneer).

The reason I ask this is because I have blown a tweeter with this receiver already. Given, it was in a pair of Sony $100/pair floor speakers, but I can only assume (since the mids died out on the Sony's aswell), that the amp within the receiver clipped, yet there was no indications of the clipping on the receiver itself. Unless there is a built-in protection and clipping wasn't the cause of my problem? The Sony's themselves, for ..being Sony's, sounded fine with ZERO distortion upon the tweeter/mid dying out.

Excuse my wall of text, I'd just like to be sure I don't give the 70's unclean power and clip them out. I'd hate to be on tweeter #2 as I do love my music loud.

    Thanks!
    Brandon

Edit: Oh, and as for the shipping package/condition of the Monitor 70's upon arrival; the boxes were near mint. No holes...barely a blemish.
