... at Best Buy. They had a nice Panasonic HDTV with 3D technology. Wow, I've been skeptical, but it truly was amazing. Beautiful; at least with their demo video. I still think it will require directors/engineers to implement it right and not overdo or overuse the effect just because they can. However, my other preconceived thoughts were confirmed... there's no way I'm wearing these -

Just ridiculous, IMHO.

Let me do the math here - 8 pair at $150... $1,200 just for the glasses! No way my house is going 3D! Oh yeah, I'd probably have to buy a dozen or more to account for the ones they'd inevitably sit on...:eek:

On top of that, let's say you've got a Panasonic 3-D TV. Friends invite you over for a movie at their place, a little get-together (or maybe he's got a better HT system or vice versa) however he/she has a Samsung 3-D TV. I read elsewhere that you can't use 3-D glasses made for one TV company for another TV.
Not taking into account that 3-D TV's and Blu-ray players utilize HDMI 1.4 and are not backwards compatible....well you catch my drift. You can keep the same AVR/etc. if you run a 3-D BDP that internally decodes and sends out over analog audio for the hi-res audio tracks but still it's alot of money for all that other stuff!

Agreed Freddy! I hadn't thought that far ahead... the chain of necessary upgrades for 3D could increase the real cost of upgrading astronomically!
I love me some new technology, but I'm going to be in "sit and wait" mode on this one. One day in the probably not-so-distant future, we'll be laughing at these glasses. Something better will come along. :cool:

There is a company that now makes 3D glasses that will work on any TV out there so that shouldn't be a problem.
Also Panasonic makes a 3D BD player with Dual HDMI ports so you won't need to update your AVR and still run HDMI which is a great idea and I wish more would do it.
Panny Plasma is by far the best 3D TV out there.
IMHO purchasing a 3D TV today is crazy because you can not get 1080P per eye and probably wont be able to for another year or two. So no doubt I will not be upgrading anytime soon if ever.(3) PS3's, Xbox 360, (2) Wii's and Nintendo NES

any one know if you have glasses if you can see the 3d??????

I agree, the Panasonic plasma 3D is superb with the Samsung LCD coming close. It would be great to have it in the home but at current prices and with limited content, waiting for prices to lower and content to increase is my plan for the time being. (It also hurts that I bought their V series a generation right before they went 3D.
)
Also, 3D TVs that do not require glasses have already been made (albeit sub 720p currently) where the 3D effect can be pulled off if you are within 8 spots. Hopefully development of such displays comes a long way in the next couple of years.zippty2001 wrote: »any one know if you have glasses if you can see the 3d??????
Most of the 3D glasses are designed to fit over prescription glasses. There are a few people out there who plainly cannot see the 3D effect but wearing glasses should have no affect over it.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

If I were going to roll out a new home entertainment concept that required "across the board" investment by families - in these economic times, it would be done with failure in the planning.
Just don't see it happening.

Interesting article on AVS on new possible resolutions coming, great than 1080p of course. I think I'm going to wait till 3D and higher resolution sets come to reality at a realistic price for the whole package.
