Best room size for "soundroom"?

Hello,
I am looking at either buying or building a house and one of the tings I want to consider is a good room for sound. Currently I have a set of modded 1.2TL's and would like to have an ideal sized room for them.
This will be the "mancave" so I can do whatever I want with it:cool: I do plan to have room treatments installed at some point. I will also want to soundproof it to some degree so I can play loud whenever I want and not distrub the entire house.
So, what is the best size to go with on this project?? Any other advise on this?
Thanks in advance!!:)

Billy,
My room is 19' 8" X 11' 2". My 1.2TLs sound fantastic in it and that is only with a 7' ceiling. IMHO 20' X 15' with 8' or higher ceiling would be ideal. I ddin't get that from any formula or website this just my experience. The 1.2TLs are on the long wall 6' 8" apart, my sweet spot starts at 6' 5" and goes back to 8' (can't go back any further cause of the 11' wall) the only problem I have and it is remedied by room treatments is backsplash off the back walls. Until I can afford real room treatments I use couch cushions on top of the back of the overstuffed couch and some big ugly 4" foam pads for the corners of the speaker wall. I use some eggcrate foam 2' x 2' in the upper corners of the rear of the room.
If you read the SDA manuals they really are not particularly picky as long as you follow the standard guidelines i.e., three feet minimum from the side walls, 6' to 8' apart no less than 4', perfectly parallel to the back wall, sweet spot set from the middle plane of the speakers back how ever many feet the speakers are apart (center of speaker).
Again just MHO and experience that I have. -

This is what I'm planning on doing with specific room treatments and build. Yeah Baby!!!~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

I am a bit confused... If the 1.2's need to be 3' from the side walls and are just under 2' wide this would only leave enough foon to have about 2.5' between them?? I can't see that sounding very good?? Am I missing something??Pio Elete Pro 520

14x22 here but it all depends on what your going to do with it. Mine is sealed, concrete walls on all four sides, then some insulation type used inwall. 1/2" foam padding underneath the carpet to help with sound also, at least it's supposed to.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

As long as the three dimensions are not mathematically related you should be good. A perfect cube would be the worst, while a room say, 10x16x22 could be very good. A good book that covers this is F. Alton Everest's "The Master Handbook Of Acoustics".THE MAN-CAVE 5.1 CHANNEL A/V RIG

I apologize, I do not have Polk speakers anymore. The setup I was referring to would be for my current speakers. It will be tweaked a bit but the general dimensions will stay the same.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable?
