RM2350's as surrounds?

Hey all.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this setup idea. What about R28's as mains, a CSi30 as the center, and 2 RM2350's as surrounds (sats that come with the RM6700 package). Has anyone here done this or anything similiar? Love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

Brian

Rti38's as mains would be optimal.. the 28's may be a bit small.. just make sure you have them crossed at the receiver correctly and set them to small (for the 28's) other wise sounds good

    Hey Tour2ma,

Yes, I have a sub. I really like the RM6700's. They fit my decor well and sound terrific. Actually they sound much better than the R30's I had! But, I really miss my CSi30 that I had for my previous center channel. That was a great speaker. If the RM6700 has a weak spot, it's the center. Anyway, I'd like to just replace my existing center with the CSi30 and move the current one to the rear for 6.1, but I was wondering if it would be better to just replace the mains as well to RTi28's so the front sound stage would be better matched. I have talked to a few other people who have just kept the sats and used the CSi30 for the center and they said it matched fine. Just looking for more opinions.

Sounds to me like you have your answer already. I think the rig you mentioned is layed out very well, enjoy!

    brian,
OK, so you do have the 6700 package. Wasn't clear whether this was the case or you had just bought pieces somewhere.

If you miss your CSi30, bag one. It seems as if you are convinced it's a good move. Only question is timing, keep an eye out for sales prompted by the launch of the new RTI line.

    Hey tour-

Do you personally think the CSi30 will overpower the sats? I know some people are sticklers for drivers, etc.. to be exact across the front sound stage. As you said, I truly miss that speaker. BTW, I forgot to mention previously that my sub is the PSW303.

I did something similiar with using my RM6600's sats in the back(RTI38s and CSI40) up front. It worked fine. I even, at one point, had the sats all the way around and the CSI40 in the center. That too worked out ok. I didn't notice much-- if any-- variation in the sound characteristic. Just make sure that you can cross-over the sats at a higher point than the other speakers, or else crossover everything at a point where the sats will be comfortable performing.

    brian,
jesy covered it pretty well. Basically you decide if the 30 will blend with your settings. If you cross to your sub at 80 Hz, and balance your HT with a test disc and spl meter, I see no issue.
