Onkyo 608 Forward or Refined

As some of you guys know I am debating wheather I get the Onkyo 608 or 707 to match a Polk entry level set up.. Personally I have always loved the "forward-in your face" sound typical of Onkyo receivers. Reminds of being in the sweet spot in the pit at a live Show. But many critiques have often stated the forward sound, in there personal opinion, was a bit over the top at times. "What Hi Fi" the bible of Audio from England has been one of the vocal critiques (from time to time) in respect to the forward sounding (gonna bite your fu@king head off) Onkyo's. The review below really has me thinking about the "refined" engineering of the 608. Never heard it side by side with any other Onkyo and am curious if there is merit to the review.

Please have a read. Would love to hear your comments. Is it really refined? Is it toned down a notch? Or it is a "new ballgame"?

And FYI.......Newegg is really pushing my buttons as they just had a nice price drop on the 608 to 394 Bux only.

I don't think any of the 08 onkyo stuff will sound any different. Do you need preamp out? If so go 707, otherwise the 60x has always been a great value. You don't need s-video switching and upconversion do you? The 9 times out of 10 I sell someone a 60x at work, and I have never had one returned.

9 out of 10 thats pretty good. What is the reason for the returns?
