We've had a Dyson for several years...works as advertised, but glad we got the extended warranty as it's in the shop at least once every year.

They suck for repairs and price. Never used one but took tons of them in for expensive repairs at a service center.

I just bypass the voltage regulator on a $69 Walmart special and it will suck the butt off the cat. Sounds like a turbine, but works like charm.

I've done it to all my 'disposable' vacuums. I couldn't get the youtube crew to show up to film it.

Define expensive. 'Cause for $15 more than half of what Dyson says is the MSRP for the unit, it's a good deal. Especially considering the cheapest non-woot price I found was $400 plus shipping and it wasn't the DC22 when I went to the website, it was a refurb DC23. But the repair price would have to be more than that for me to see it as expensive.

It also depends on what needs to be repaired. But if I have to spend the same amount of money on the unit in 2 years for repairs that I paid for it new then I'll be looking for a different vacuum. But I'm also not prone to think something is junk just because it has to be repaired. Nor am I adverse to having something like a vacuum cleaner repaired. Especially if it works as well as people say the Dyson does. It's worth it to keep it and repair it IMO.

I would do that but I have hardwood floors and the "disposable" units will mark them up. I spent alot of time and money on the floors to have them destroyed by a cheap vacuum.

Actually, around 180 will get you Consumer Reports best vacuum, and most retailers will be happy to share which are best on that rag as well.

We went with the Binford 3000, I mean the Hoover Windtunnel Platinum, as it was hard to find the specific best model from Consumer when we went shopping, err I went shopping rather.

After a lifetime of vacuums, I have to say it is really one of the best we have had. What proves it to me is that one year plus later, it still works as if it were new, and it works well.

Dyson is over rated and over priced.

I paid 300, but could have had a model close to number one for 180.
I wanted to step it up, and it was worth it.

There was a few other websites I reviewed first before buying, I forget which ones, but google or bing it, they are there.

My wife and all our extend family have Dysons and they work great and have never been in the shop. We have the Dyson Animal, and it's pretty gross what it picks up off the carpet that other vacuums won't. I highly recommend any of their products, although a cheap vacuum with the voltage regulator removed also sounds like fun!

PS. When are they going to make a vacuum tube powered vacuum?

Many times it's the plastic hoses that interconnect different areas that have cracked. Recently the "clutch" had to be replaced. I will have to say though, the thing is run every day and my wife is none too gentle with it!

We've had a Dyson for a few years. Not sure what model. It has never had any problem. We love it and if we ever need to get another vacuum, it will be a Dyson.

    Great deal John.

    All vacuums SUCK!

We've had our Dyson for 3 yrs now, never had an issue except for the beater brush, the bristles wore out. I call Dyson and in 4 days had a brand new roller to install and replace the old one.

that had to be one of the funniest things I've read or seen today. Russ do you commonly have cat butt in your way when you vacuum because if you do, I think you might have too many cats..... er something....:p

WOOT had the Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum a few months ago for $229.00. I bought one & love it, but the hose is cheesy quality & the cord is too short. Other than that, it will turn a cat INSIDE OUT if you stick it to his butt~

Sanitaire (made by Electrolux) SC5713-A commercial vacs are the best I have ever owned. Period.

And while Dyson does make an excellent product, I also have to keep in mind price/durability when purchasing vacs, especially if other people are going to be the ones usind/abusing them :o .

Having said all that, the price on that particular Dyson is a no-brainer, IMO.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

well there you go - we run ours (dc25) twice a month.....hahahhahaha

In all reality - they are cheap plastic - Great design, poor materials

but if you keep them empty and keep the bearings, connections and pivots cleaned - they will work well for a long time.

This vac kicked the Dyson's butt in Con.Reports testing, it's the one we bought, and it's worked perfectly for 2+ years! ;)

Just bought the same vac, and it really does kick a**. Our old vacuum was a Dyson the step down from the one on woot (forget the model since we sold it), and that Hoover does so much better on hardwoods and about equal on carpets.

I run my DC25 Blueprint twice a week but I'm very easy on it such as picking up any large items and moving furniture out of it's way. Also, I clean it out every time I use it, not just emptying it. Here's hoping regular maintenance will make it lasts a long time.

I like the new Dyson Fan

I have a feeling that's going to be the future of high-end ceiling fans.

    I think its a cool idea...but.

    1. Its not bladeless. It has an 'impeller', aka a fan with blades which is inside the unit...and since there's no filter in it, its going to need to be cleaned...and it looks much harder to clean than your typical fan.

    2. Its loud for the amount of air it pushes.

    3. $240 for a desk fan that looks like it could be made for $15 in china and sold for maybe $40 in the states...

But I'd have to say, if I could get one for about $40 for my desk, I'd probably get it just because it looks cool.

I picked up a DC24 for one of our stores a while back...

We have used it every day for about 3 months for now -- usually vacuuming about 6,000 sq ft a day ---

    Never had a problem :)
