I've been in communication with Barry at JL Audio about dialing in my new sub and he recommended treating all my connections with Stabilant 22A. He said that this would improve the whole sound of my rig by increasing connectivity. More info here and Here about what stabilant is and how it works.

I found a small vial on ebay for $8.50 Here and tried it out.

I was shocked at what it did to my rig. The first thing I noticed was that there was more of a 3 dimensional sound. The second thing I noticed was more detail and increased dynamic range!

I tried Caig for my first time a couple months ago and also noticed an improvement with this. I found that it helped balance out the sound of my rig. Now this Stabilant 22A takes what Caig did to a whole new level of performance. Definitely worth a try for less than $10 :D

Ern Dog, what did you use to apply it? Also what connections did you apply it to?
Im interested in trying it on my receiver, dac, and int amp.

Essentially, it's electrical contact enhancer- so I put it on both ends of IC, speaker cables, power cords and as Venom indicated, tube pins.

It was a very noticeable difference and squeezed out 5-10% improvement on my rig.

Does it leave a visible slick of gunk, or is it transparent film like Cardas CC?

No slick gunk. I used a minute amount to create a transparent film.

I believe this stuff comes from the Telecom industry(among others). It was used to extend the life and improve the voice quality of the old style mechanical switches they used.

It will also increase the surface area that comes into contact.

Here is a good read on it. It's from the 'Internet' (you have been warned :) )

Yep, it's telecom. It is a Motorola product.

I wonder how it compares to Deoxit?

Well now it is time for review. Just like Ern Dog said: I was shocked at what it did to my rig. The first thing I noticed was that there was more of a 3 dimensional sound. The second thing I noticed was more detail and increased dynamic range!

I noticed very similar results. Widened soundstage, speakers seemed to blend better together (harder to locate left and right speaker), and I also felt that some more of the details in the background "popped out" at me. Very impressed for 8.50.

Well a sucker is born every minute. Add me to the list. Do you add to both sides of the connection? Also, I would assume that applying to digital connections would be useless, yes?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, it should also be used for digital electrical connections. Poor contact can create stray capacitance. Me thinks putting more surface area in direct contact will make the connection less capacitive AND les resistive. Digital signals will benefit from the lack of capacitive 'ringing'.

    Just a hunch...

So basically I should apply this to both ends of all my cables?

Here it is. Do you know if this has a limited shelf life. Didn't say in spec on site.

    According to the writeup here:
It has a very low vapor pressure and therefore there is no appreciable loss of material from evaporation. It has been in some applications for more than fifteen years without renewal, and it is probably safe to say that in the majority of cases, the equipment on which it is used will be retired as obsolescent before the Stabilant must be renewed.

Looks like DeOxit products have a 1 year warranty and a 2-3 year shelf life--intersting--I wonder if that affects the product that's already been applied....

**edit _doesn't look the applied product is affected over time (according to this chart and this chart , but more likely the bulk solution might separate or something like that.

Should I use this stuff on my banana plugs? I'm hesitant to put it on connections on my AVR. Does it really work that well?

Also Ebay is selling .5ml vials. Is that enough for all the banana plugs in my HT rig?

First I want to say that I'm not connected with Stabilant or the ebay seller in any way and I'm no expert on it- only a satisfied customer.

I put a small amount on my banana plugs, as that is a pretty important connection point. That little .5ml vial goes a long way. One bottle will easily be enough for your whole rig and at least a couple times over. Keep in mind you only need one application.

I also put it on the ends of my power cords and all IC's (the pin and the surrounding part too). Don't forget tube pins.

As I said before, I got 5-10% improvement in performance. Your mileage may vary, as I can only speak to the difference I heard in my rig. At $8.50 a shot, what's the risk?
