What can I replace my SDA-2's with?

I have a pair of SDA-2's. I love the sound but they are just too large for my living room. Is there any speaker with similar sound. Slimmer towers would be preferred. Specifically, would the LSI 15's sound better? Ideas, comments?

SDA's are unique. Trying to go with something smaller will sound much different no matter what you do. LSi's are nice and offer great sound, but for my ear, SDA's will always have a place in my home.

If you want a more "room-filling" sound with smaller speakers, try Mirage. Their Omni sound is quite unique. miragespeakers.com I've never heards SDA's, so with this reply, I'm assuming you're looking for a big sound from smaller speakers because I don't think there is anything else like SDA out there.

Would the SDA 2A or 2B be small enough? They are somewhat smaller than the SDA2's. Also the SDA CRS is another somewhat smaller speaker, which is still in the SDA family, but not towers.

I agree that the CRS+ is a great little speaker that sounds good, and is easy to place correctly in a room. With the 4.1TL mod, they are a hard speaker to beat for the size, especially if you want that SDA sound.

+1 I love mine and I have had people walk into my living room and ask were the music was coming from.

They take up the same floor space, possibly more, but are not quite as aggressive looking.

You could try something like the BP stuff from Definitive. They have the bi-pole design, so at least they offer something more than a direct firing speaker. They are some of my favorites off axis, but honestly they are not as coherent in the sweet spot because of this design. If you want good imaging anywhere in the room try some def tech, otherwise go for those lsi's!!!

One thing you should consider, is going a different direction altogether. The SDA sound is pretty unique, but one of the things about this hobby is that it is not about climbing a single mountain, but instead, there are many different sonic experiences. Since you're stepping down size-wise you have some interesting options available. Consider the possibilities and enjoy checking out the options.

If you want something smaller than SDAs, but still can fill a room without a pin-point sweet spot, how about some Klipsch towers? Around here you can get a good pair of RF-XX on craigslist all day and it's a great speaker for the size.

The RF's are great. I still have a pair of 35's. When it comes to dynamics, prat and impact, they're hard to beat for the $.

I replaced mine with PSB Synchrony One towers and haven't looked back.

I also replaced my LSiC with the Synchrony One center, and that was a drop-in, kick-**** upgrade. The other 4 speakers are LSi15s, and a PSB1000 sub.

I agree with the size difference between the LSI's and the SDA's. I love my new LSI's but would be a fool to say they give the same effects as the SDA's. They sound fantastic and accurate but don't give you that room filling rumble like a big pair of SDAs.
