Down and dirty amp audition

So I am going to be the potential proud owner of a Carver av-705x amplifier this weekend. I however need help auditioning it. The owner hasnt used it in years so I want to verify all channels work.
This is what I am thinking. One by one check each channel using a CS1 speaker getting its input from one side of a y cable coming from a ipod....Will this work?
I am trying to avoid disconnecting my entire reciever to connect out there to verify all channels work. I thought this way I could test each channel individually quickly without nearly as much hassle and cords.

bring it up to my place and we can plug it into my rig if you like.:p
That method will work, but you will not get a feel for what the amp can do without wiring it up properly. There is a chance, though small, that even though each works ok on their own, that there could be a problem when all channels are driven. The Gear... Lol....I just want to use that method to test to ensure that all the channels are working. As long as I can get 3 of the 5 channels working I call it a win personally as the emotiva XPA-3 costs 600ish and that is not anywhere near what I can spend. Also that way if a couple dont work I can negotiate the price down.
I may have you come down if you are around to help me dial it in if I have trouble (which I hope I wont). Also if it doesnt make a huge difference to how things sound (which I am pretty sure it will) I will give you first dibs on it."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Looks like he is going to pass by my work tomorrow so I am just going to purchase it on pure faith alone.....
Lets hope it all goes well"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)
