Well it sounds like one of my peerless tweeters is no good anymore. Really scratchy and poor sounding. Need to replace. Originals are hard to come by but I saw somewhere that there was a 'knock off' sold at madisound made by mwaudio or something? Can anyone provide a link to this speaker?

The 810665 (PE Peerless) has been oop for a few years now. There is no knock off or copy out there right now that I know of.

    Cheers,

Haing compared and tried many tweeters in many 10s and RTA12s RDO194s are not the answer for everything. Several versions of the Peerless tweeter sound better in 10s and 10As as well as early 10bs Do you have a picture of the front and back of your peerless unit?? ALL these sound different as do the knock offs.

A quick thought.......if things get out of adjustment on a peerless, scratching can start up. If you're careful, you can loosen the 4 innermost screws and try to re-center the dome/coil and the magnet.;)

OK that is a US made Peerless used in 1983 and 84 Note the 84 at the end of the number. That is the year. That xwesion with the golds round magnet and dimple is a little warmer sounding then the earlier ones. Is the faceplate a little textured?? I may have a faceplate for it unless then magntet is knocked goofy. Did you release the four screws and move the faceplate around?? keith

I agree Keith as well as it not fitting anyways. My experience with the RTA and Monitor series is also extensive, probably moreso than the SDA.

Why a loudspeaker can't be listened to anymore, based on its own merits, horrible design and all for example, has been long lost. Everything has to immediately be upgraded, modified or changed these days.

In regards to suggestions, from me as well, I usually shoot from the hip based on a lot of factors. There's a solid knowledge base here that is found nowhere else, period and sometimes we get complacent in the suggestion department based on years of the same question being asked. It's normal and nothing inherently wrong as far as the intent.

Your frustration with this is evident in another thread about the Peerless tweeter. I applaud your concern and its cool that CP has members like you that care enough to look deeper into the subject....not many do. I'm still researching some of those issues and have the same concern and interest.

The DQ10's I've been restoring, forever it seems, have a sonic signature that would be lost if I hot rodded them beyond normal stuff. I'm not the most audio purist in the bunch but I do feel that if your loudspeaker isn't doing what you want, buy another speaker. Mods and stuff are cool but only to a point and you'll never recoup the cost anyways. I'm sure they're some that will never part with their SDA and that's cool too but I prefer to listen to as much as possible...experience the world per se and not just from a demo chair.

Don't get all wrapped around the axle and know that you're not alone. We all have a different level of hobby obssesion.... it's so wallet unhealthy but if we didn't have a difference of opinion, it would all mean nothing.

    so these rd0 tweeters...

i read that it requires routing out the hole because the factory one is too small is this correct? i also read that it requires a modification to the crossover is this correct?

without contacting polk myself, can anyone tell me the price of these tweeters?

If I were in your situation, I'd try to locate a replacement Peerless. If you decide to go the RDO route, I'd be interested in buying both of your Peerless tweeters from you, if you'd like to sell them. Good Luck !:)

the only reason i want to replace one is because of a shrillness most noticeable with higher pitched guitar sounds such as 1970's Carlos Santana songs. it sounds like crap but i can't find anything physically wrong with the tweeter. could there be any other causes for this?

You said that you wanted to replace "one".

Is one sounding different???? The Peerless are on the bright side.

Yes you would need to sligthly modify the hole.

Have you switched the tweeters to the other cabinets ? Does the "shrill" sound follow with the suspect tweeter.....or stay with the same cabinet with the diff. tweeter installed. Could be it's a problem with the XO or something else, if the shrill stays with the same cabinet.

on another listen it hard to tell whether it's the tweeter or midrange. its most noticeable with distorted guitar ( latest listen was audioslave). i have some new caps on order, maybe they will clean things up.

don't want to just swap tweeters because they are soldered connections with rope caulk sealing them, so not the easiest swap to do.
