The drums in Jimi Hendrix's "The Wind Cries Mary". Mitch Mitchell was a monster . .
i thought i read, 100 years ago, that jimi played all the instuments on that tune -
I could see Jimi playing that song but not something like Manic Depression.
-
that pizzicato violin(?) bit in Anne Peebles "I cant stand the rain"Sounds good to me...

A lot of these are good ones, but I have to say, none of them compare...
...compare to what the cowbell did for 'the reaper' by the blue oyster cult.
Fellas, I've got a fever, and the only prescription...is more cowbell.

The french horn in Pink Floyds' "Shine on you crazy Diamond"
The voice synthisizer in Gary Wrights' "Do you feel like we do"
Would "Stairway to Heaven" be the same without the plain guitar picking in the begining?
I went to a yard sale and a girl was playing it out in the driveway in a louge chair and the sound from her amp ecoed in that culdesac and it was really, really excellent sounding and instantly recognizable. That solo is as well known as Obama is around the world I would think. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Nice bagpipes near the fadeout of the final track (Sleep) on Crack the Sky's eponymous debut album. The remastered CD inexplicably fades before the bagpipes, though :-( I am guessing there was an issue with the tapes.shadowofnight wrote: »Bagpipes....in this.....:D

Goosebump raising. -
There are two, I think, that make The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel. Whatever it is they use for that whip-like snapping noise throughout the song, and definitely the trombone at the end.

How about the telephone connection or the clearing of the throat in Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here.
That weird whistle is awesome and adds a ton to the feel of the song. -
Cannons in music are always awesome. Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" and AC/DC's "For Those About to Rock." And I'm pretty sure that "The Wind Cries Mary" was recorded in London about the same time as "Fire" and with the rest of the Experience. The drum track is very Mitchell-esque too. There was great Calvin & Hobbes cartoon along those lines. C&H were listening to 1812 Overture. Calvin's observation vis-a-vis the use of real cannon: "And they perform this in crowded concert halls? Cool!"]
EDIT: The "weird whistle" in the intro to Wish you Were Here is called heterodyne. It is caused by the "beat" (mathematical superposition) of two AM radio frequency carrier waves (of slightly differing frequency) whose difference frequency is audible. That wavering whistle is very familiar to those of us who spent our formative years "DXing" AM or SW :-) -

Thanks, I never knew what it was called and will probably forget just as quickly but for the moment I feel smarter.:) Now what were we talking about??? -
Back on topic, the theremin (one of the first "electronic" musical instruments) uses exactly the same principle to create... umm... music.
Even more on topic - howzabout the great theremin in the Beach Boys song Good Vibrations, eh? :-) -
Already mentioned, my good man. Twice. Though I feel you are already in on the joke.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

The late Tony Thompson's drums, i.e. Power Station's "Some Like It Hot" and Madonna's "Like A Virgin", amongst many others
Jeez Danny... Tony is dead too? Sucks. That dude was a monster. So many bad **** tracks. I saw Power Station (with Michael Des Barres AKA Murdoc ) back in the day.
Tony Thompson was force to be reckoned with.
Carry on...-Kevin
