Turntables? Which brand & model to consider

I've been without a turntable for some 25+ years now and, having recently purchased an entire music system of much better quality, I am ready to pull out that Pink Floyd album I first purchase around 1973 and play it again, scratches and all, along with some other LPs I've manage to keep over the years and record them to my computer (suggestions as to how to do this?)

I also plan to record an extensive collection my father accumulated over the years (lots of big band music).

Any suggestions for turntables ranging from $100 - $200? Also, I've been reading that USB is not necessarily a good thing to have with phono players, not sure why. Any advice on what I should look for is much appreciated.

Again, my goal is to move these LPs to my computer or CD.

Thanks!

I recently purchased a Audio-Techinca AT-LP120-USB Direct-Drive Professional Turntable (USB & Analog) and it works great. Very clean sound and many features on the table.
Can be had from Amazon for 189.00. Prices for this are all over the board as I have seen it anywhere from $189.00 to $450.00!
To me it was worth the $300.00 CAD I paid when I got it. I have not used the usb at all and do not intend to but it may be something that would work for you, as the software and the connections make it very easy to transfer the music over to a computer.
Quality is nice, works out of the box and a cartridge is included with it. Read a few reviews and you will see that the table gets some high marks for the price. Pretty good value! Good luck with your search.

I would up your budget to at leat $400 to $500 if you can or else you are liable to end up with a crappy TT new or used.
