Anybody in the greater northeast right now want to tell me the single greatest invention in all mankind's history wasn't air-conditioning?

Where are the computer guys? You there? Wanna be outside playing with yours right now? The computer.

It's too bad that the creation of the air conditioner creates a huge power bill for me.

Not for me, I have a heat pump and my AC is practically free in the summer however in the winter when the eletric heater in the heat pump has to kick in while the pump is defrosting (practically every 15 minutes) the electric bills are brutal.

Right now it's a heat index of over 100 out there and with my AC blasting it's 77 in the house . . . that to me is hot, hell anything over 50 degrees to me is hot.

My swimming pool kept me nice and cool today...as long as I didn't have to walk on the concrete deck. :D

I feel your pain George. We are in the middle of a heat wave here in the interior of British Columbia too. 33 celcius right now which is 91.4 fahrenheit with hotter days in the forcast next week. I'm wearing out my air conditioner but I'm sleeping at night. Highest ever recorded here was just over 41 C which is about 106 F. We don't all live in igloos here in the Great White North.

Fully agreed, electricity is the greatest invention.

At this specific time, with the AC running in the bedroom it is 73 while the remainder of the home is still at 78 (too hot for me ).

However, Florida has countless beaches in order to aleviate the heat discomfort. Actually, Florida is very sought by Canadians for vacation. There are never any heat issues with Hotels loaded with AC systems  I would much prefer heat from April to November then being stuck freezing my butt from February to April

When I was up north, we never even heard of central air, but if we went back up ( yeah, right, NOT ! ), we would get a central air unit. Also to note, after freezing in the Buffalo area and we moved down here, now we have a fireplace ? WTF, over ?
Actually, up north, I liked snow tires the best, next to snowmobiles that is.
Tried the studs all the way around, but really, the Michelin X-Ice or Bridgestone Blizzak's at all 4 corners, to me, in that neck of the woods, were an even greater invent.
