Tv Stand

I am having the most difficult time finding a TV stand that will fit my CS2, sized for my 50' TV and hold components. I live in an old old house and don't want any contemporary furniture, and I can't afford to spend $1200 for a stand. Anyone had any luck? Can you point me in the right direction?
I have looked in all local furniture stores, I think they make stuff and do not even consider center channel speakers.

I ran into the same problem in the end I bought a table and built a 3 shelves under the table for the center, and the rest of the equipment. So I recommend just putting one together for yourself under a nice table.Work in Progress HT

Have you checked out the stores on Magazine Street - starting at Napolean and Magazine (headed towards the CBD)? When I was living there, I found some good A/V furniture in that area.
If that proves unsuccessful, look up Record Ron's. He is a good source for vinyl and A/V furniture tips.
Good luck! -
If you need to have one made for an inexpensive price, go to Delgado and talk to one of the carpentry instructors (or students).

I am going to make my own this winter.
I had worked on opening up a wall last winter, and still have yet to sand and finish it, as I also am going to add a book case next to it.
With all the hoo ha of equipment, it is easier to just build it yourself.
For those without much experience, go to this old house website or the like for the plethora of plans out there.
Wood work is not so bad.
Actually quite enjoyable.
Myself, I have a lot of construction experience dating back to the days of the cubit, in relative terms to my life.
I saw in a recent rag issue I get this quote " I try to do everything three times. If I don't get it right, at least I know I tried my best, before I pay someone to do it."
While many of us know better than three times, we usually have resource enough via the internet or the like to get it done or pay for it to be done.
Good luck.
I say, build it yourself.
Any in depth questions, feel free to PM me.Onkyo TX-NR636

Is this a 50 inch flatscreen? If so, those stands from target, walmart, and places of that nature where you can mount the tv to a "neck" and leaves you with 3 shelves underneath are great.

Rear projection LCD. I guess I'll be on the lookout for some wood taken from one of these old places or some old barge board. Then, I'll be hitting up my wife's uncle for some wood working help.

The desired finished look will determine everything, well, that and afford-ability.
You can make pine look nice, but if you want oak, you will have to pony up the bucks.
But, still cheaper, and the finished product can stay in the family if really nice.
Maybe not on a TV stand, but maybe you're next project.
Years ago, I built a 9 foot dining room table.
Every piece of wood on it is oak, and I can literally jump up and down on it with no flex.
I also made that table 38" wide and 38" tall, so you can have platters in the middle comfortably, and it feels like you are a kid eating at it, due to the height.
Yes, get your uncle in law's help and learn.
Also, do some online research and/or watch some HGTV or the like to also help.
Good luck.Onkyo TX-NR636

For my room separation, I used pine, as oak would have cost 1/3 more.
The bookcase I will be building will match ( pine ), and my entertainment center will follow that, also pine.
Quite workable, pine is, where oak is hard as a rock, nearly.
Other considerations, besides cost, workability.Onkyo TX-NR636

I'm currently looking at having bamboo for my flooring. What are some of the drawbacks that you've come across with bamboo?
My biggest concerns are the durability and maintenance. One of my dogs weighs 105 pounds and loves to jump up and down as well as run around in the house. I also need a floor that can handle extra heavy traffic (dogs in and out of house, kids coming out of pool, etc.).
ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -
Take a look at lumber liquidators here:

Flex, from what I hear.
I have a lot of experience with wood working, but installing wood flooring will be new to me.
I have done floors, built rooms and so on, yada, yada, but have yet to install a wood floor is all.
It looks like a good bit of work, but enjoyable.
I have researched a little bit so far, and saw flex as a concern.
Some types though, will laminate other directions of the grain underneath to assist in the floor not flexing ( shrink or expand ) to a minimum.
Resale, bamboo is the mac daddy to the green people, though.
And, most American's are bitten by the green bug now, and more coming.
Take a look around their website, you will learn a lot.Onkyo TX-NR636
