I have Red box machines in my twin Cities town that offer movies for $1.00 rental. Now they are starting to offer Blu rays for $1.50. I have a first gen PS3 for gaming and it will play blu rays. I am wondering to get the most out of my HT experience.Should I get a standalone player for better visuals ands sounds? I was thinking of Oppo Bu ray or at least a Sony model? thanks,D

I just picked up the sony 1000ES from Vanns. i wish I had red box Blu rays in my area. I just looked and it is not available. When it is, I will be tearin it up.Front - RTiA5's
Rear - RTiA3's
Center - CSiA4
Sub - PSW110 -
That's cool, I'm hoping they come to my area soon. I checked their website and it says nothing about Blu's.
As for a different machine, don't. You cannot do better then the PS3. It is the most flawless machine on the market. I have yet to have a single issue with any disc, it's worked flawlessly. My friend just bought the latest Sammy 5500, it won't player Avatar.
Before buying a stand alone player I'd wait until these other manufactures get their **** together and can make machines that don't have issues playing the disc's they were built for.If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
There are a few players now with quicker load times, but the PS3 is a great BD player. No need in buying a different one.

You don't know what you're talking about.
The PS3 is a fine Blu-Ray player and there's not much need to buy a standalone...but to say he can't do better? lol...funny stuff. -
Red Boxes in SD have had BD for awhile now, and they are the same price of a $1.mole'

Guess I should have added "in the price range of sub $500 machines". Does that work better?If...

You already have a very good blu-ray player, and it's Netflix ready too.
What's the issue? My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
The RB in my area also has had Blu-rays for a long time at $1. The problem that I have with them is that the BD selection and locations they are at, are very limited.
I have a PS3 80gb and the slim. Great players, the one drawback for me is no 7.1 analog outs on the PS3. -
If you buy a stand alone blu-ray player you will simply have 2 blu-ray players, when your current one is all you need.
The PS3 will do everything you need it to (and more). It has also been CNET's top rated blu-ray player for a long time now. -
Just checked yesterday. they've added blu-ray to my local redbox.If...

Personally, I'd avoid anything Panasonic at this point. Reading up on other sites they seem to be one of the most troubled next to Samsung when playing blu-rays.If...

+1 on the Oppo BDP 83. It would be a nice upgrade over the PS3, but I wouldn't buy it unless I had the money to spend when I already had the PS3. I sold my PS3, which is why I bought the Oppo. -
