14 gauge flat wire vs round cable

I just purchased 14 gauge flat speaker cable ("megacable") from Radio Shack, made for areas not suitable for round wire (under rug). I am wondering if there are any issues with flat vs round because I've read where the highs run along outer portions of cable and bass more toward the center.
Does having flat cable compromise sound in any way?
AND, is it highly recommended to have the same length of cable, regardless of distance each speaker is from the receiver - one is 5 ft and the other 20.

I have the same 14ga cable. I've been using it for 2 years now and don't have any problems with it. As far as sound goes my system sounds great to me. It could probably sound better if I had more money to put in to it but for the money it sounds great to me. I don't think the distance thing will matter as I think your avr will compensate for that
