Moving to a new place...

We're moving from a house with a dedicated family room where I currently have my HT set up, to an apartment with just a living room. I am debating how to set up my rears in a 5.1 arrangement. I have a pair of FXi3's and also a pair of RTi4s. I will use one or the other as the rears. The couch will be up against the rear wall there is a wall on the left side, but the right side of the couch will be open as it is the "dining room" area.
Should I:
Going nuts racking my brain on how to do this...
Should I:
- Put the RTi4's on stands, and place them on either side of the couch pointing at each other?
- Hang the FXi3's on the rear wall? (Don't know how this would work because the right side has no wall for the sound to "bounce" off of, just and open space)
- Put the RTi4's on stands behind the couch pointing UP at the ceiling?
- Put the FXi3's on stands behind the couch pointing UP at the ceiling?
- Just give up and get a soundbar?

Welcome to Club Polk.
The only advice I have for you is to try out the different arrangements. That should tell you pretty quickly what will work.Political Correctness'.........defined

Welcome to the club Mike. I would try the RTi4's on the stands on either side of the couch facing the listener and the FXi's mounted on the wall. Go with whichever sounds better. I wouldn't recommend putting them behind the couch pointing up, but you never know. Do some experimenting and enjoy your new setup.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

Mine are on the floor pointing up, I remember seeing this version of a set up on Dolby website a long time ago. My next route is in ceiling speakers to replace the rti4s
