Not the best shots and not a ton to work with. But you can see the contrast with the series I Monitor 50's. Far more attractive in my opinion.
I can't tell any difference between the vinyl/real wood veneer finishes. I'm no expert but they look the same to me.
I haven't listened to them yet, but if the new 70's sound like the old 70's, they remain one of the best bang for the buck floorstanders out there. I really like these speakers for the money. For instance, I think they sound much better than the much more expensive RT800i's that I used to own.

They look very good! Looking forward to get a pair of these. I was thinking in a pair of TSi500 from polk's ebay site, but now I'm tempted with these!

+1, M70s are one of Polk's most underrated speakers. For the money, new...try to do better.
I do hope you're right about the II series...the specs look identical?

The series II 70's now at home in the home theater. They will be working with a CSi5 and a Dayton T1203K 12" Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit that I put together a few months ago.
Darn, now the CSi5 looks outclassed by the series 2 70's, as opposed to the other way around as before with the series 1 70's.

From the looks of the finish, the Monitor 70 series II is actually a better buy. I had the TSi300's at one point, and they very obviously used a vinyl finish.
Plus the Monitor 70's have a cascade tapered array crossover while the Tsi500's do not.My System Showcase!

Looking at that second picture it looks like they have EXACTLY the same grain pattern. That points pretty heavily towards the series II using the same vinyl that the original monitors used.
Even with a vinyl finish the series II is definitely nicer looking. I couldn't stand the silver on the older RTi and Monitor series. I actually bought some of the older RTi speakers and ended up returning them and getting the new line -- even with the grills on you still end up getting distracted by the silver ring you can see around the edges. -
If you look at the grain on the finish you can see that it is the exact same finish as the series one. Now granted I do like the black face instead of the silver face but for the actual cabinet finish it's exactly the same, right down to the placement and pattern of the wood swirl.
The color of the drivers is new, but material seems to be the same as well. So as for this being some sort of step up with improvements in quality and sound reproduction, I highly doubt there is any difference. But either way CNH is right, you just can't beat this speaker at this price range.Main Setup
