Operation Northwoods.

"Operation Northwoods, or Northwoods, was a false-flag plan that originated within the United States government in 1962. The plan called for Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or other operatives to commit genuine acts of terrorism in U.S. cities and elsewhere. These acts of terrorism were to be blamed on Cuba in order to create public support for a war against that nation, which had recently become communist under Fidel Castro. One part of the Operation Northwoods plan was to "develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington."

Operation Northwoods included proposals for hijackings and bombings followed by the introduction of phony evidence that would implicate the Cuban government. The plan stated:

"The desired resultant from the execution of this plan would be to place the United States in the apparent position of suffering defensible grievances from a rash and irresponsible government of Cuba and to develop an international image of a Cuban threat to peace in the Western Hemisphere."

Several other proposals were included within the Operation Northwoods plan, including real or simulated actions against various U.S. military and civilian targets. The plan was drafted by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, signed by Chairman Lyman Lemnitzer and sent to the Secretary of Defense. Although part of the U.S. government's Cuban Project anti-communist initiative, Operation Northwoods was never officially accepted[citation needed] and the proposals included in the plan were never executed."

For my online class we were to debate the similarities of Operation Northwoods with the events of 911, and any coincidences that may have stood out.
We met at my college and it lasted about 3 hours. The things we came up with were absolutely spine tingling.
How does anyone else feel about this?
I find it scary....that something like this was even thought off....

If everyone took every zany idea that was ever proposed by the Pentagon, CIA, etc. and posted it you'd lose your mind trying to take it seriously. It's called 'brainstorming'. When these guys are considering what to do they think of A LOT of options....many of which, they themselves, realize are off the edge and are not the 'actual' ideas that are put into practice.

Sounds like the kind of material 'conspiracy theorists' love!

The so called 'Truthers" use this article to back up their theory that Bush knocked down the twin towers. That puts the OP in the same class as Charlie Sheen,Rosie O'donnel, which if I may say so, you aren't doing yourself any favors.

I don't feel one way or the other. I was shocked that this even occurred...
I didn't know about it until now, and wasn't sure if anyone else did.
I feel 911 happened, and it is done, we recovered.
The connection to Northwoods? While it is possible, I do not feel it is likely.
I try to shy away from politics, but this was just to creepy....

REALLY? (my emphasis added). I make no claim to know what actually happened to cause the terrible events, but there are so many documented intelligence failures that it starts to smell fishy.

Read up on Operation Able Danger, Operation Vigilant Warrior, and PROMIS. At the very least someone dropped the ball on purpose (i.e. Able Danger).

So just discussing what happened on 9/11 makes one a TRUTHER? Discussing historical precedent makes one a conspiracy theorist. Give me a break. A truly reactionary response bereft of any logic.

Go back to your regularly scheduled ClearChannel listening now please. And you care more about what movie stars think than your neighbor? How strange. Change the channel if you don't like what they say in the spotlight they EARNED from our desire for entertainment, just like any baseball or football star making 100 zillion dollars. We treat them like gods and then tell them to shut up about anything that REALLY matters. Go figure.

Nice rant...too bad none of it makes any sense.
I have no doubt someone dropped the ball in the intelligence community, doesn't change the facts of what happened, who did it,or why. Just proves that a big government is not efficient in anything it does. We can talk about historical precedent all day but I can guess you won't like the results. Just for the record,I've never visited clearchannel and don't care to either. Just for conversations sake, why don't you expand on your theory of why the towers were destroyed along with 3,000 lives ? Really, put it out there. Inquiring minds want to know.

The really issue here, is that every single soul knows that the government wants what it wants, it has all the power to do so. It generally does what it wants, and will, almost every time get away with it because, well, its the government.
There are a lot of things that point in the direction of government based tragedies. Such as the oil spill, that could have very well been a ploy to jump prices of oil, and it just went bad. The government could have also jacked a plane to up security in airports because they wanted to, and just buy accident have several other people, unaffiliated with the government do the same.
It COULD have happened but, it may not as well.
We being just people, workers, and not involved with government relations do not know exactly what happened, nor would we probably want to know.
We can only speculate.

That was all I was doing. Mere speculation, that does not mean I believe the government set the whole thing up, or perhaps any disaster.
But again, one does not truly know what happened. We know only what we here and only what we see. Even if what we hear and see if wrong, if no one else hears or see something different, how can it be proven wrong.
Anyway, it was just something we did in class that I found extremely interesting. That was my mistake in placing something that I should have known has so much heat attached to it.

Even after 9/1/1, a lot of people resisted all attempts to tighten security.
If government had taken the threat at 100% face value and tried
to do them prior, do you think it would of happened? NO. So why
does everyone Monday quarterback? Because it's much easier to look
like a genius when you already know all the right answers. The towers
were a known target beforehand, since a bombing attempt happened
years before 9/1/1. The friggin guys who engineered it bragged about it.
9/1/1 was real. Even the Southpark guys thinks 9/1/1 guys are
off base. Funny episode. Weapons of mass destruction? Now that's where the CIA magic happens.

Its for my English 201 Class.
It was mentioned in a discussion board and he thought it could be interesting....so we went forward with it. Those who participated got bonus points and those who didn't, didn't lose anything.

25+ years ago I took a 400 level Pol. Sci course entitled "American Strategic Policy", affectionately known around campus as "Bombs and Rockets". One fourth of our grade was based on paper where we had to design our own second-strike nuclear weapons system. We had to read declassified CIA documents and Jane's Defense reports. Mine was a small ballistic submarine that that carried only a single warhead per missile. Hearing everyone's different ideas (some quite bizzare) makes nothing I hear anymore surprising.

Ummm Debate topic during my Freshman year of High School was Weapons of Mass Destruction. We had crazy ideas of what could be used as a WMD, and guess what one was?? an airplane flown into a national building of some sorts to strike fear ect ect into the American Public which would then cause panic and chaos ect ect. this was before 911.

Then I took Poli Sci 386 I think was the # which was the Terrorism class. We talked about everything, Eco Terrorism, homeland strikes, ect ect. There are some crazy ideas out there. What is acutally true and what has happened could always be debated due to not always having the facts or information clear. IE why you end up with a lot of arguments as such.




oh and that south park mentioned, yeah a group for the Poli Sci class used that in their group paper at the end of the year, made for an interesting presenation lol.
