Speaker Selection

I am looking at buying two 12" subs, and putting them into a ported box, and supplying at least the rms rating of the sub. I have narrowed my search down to a few options so far (not all are listed), and here they are:

Polk Audio SR124-DVC

Re Audio MX Series

Diamond Audio D612-12" dvc

JBL GTO1214D

So, my question is which one of these are going to be a good SQL, and SPL subs. I am looking to meet in the middle.

Note: I am still fairly new to the car Audio world, and any input would be nice. Also I am replacing my current after market system as well (Speakers only)

Thanks
David.

Audioholics has a thread sticky on one heck of a high output, low distortion, value proposition sub woofer.

It uses an infinity sub (~$150) plus a Behringer EP2500 or EP4000 amp and Behringer DCX cross over.

Check it out: AH Kappa Sub Build

    Another option is DIYCABLE.Com

Check out the Shiva-X2 or the Tempest X2. He has plenty of box options already documented for you to run with. While the drivers cost more you can run with plate amps and omit the external x-over and amp (but you also loose some headroom).

I see you are using this for car audio. Still check out the drivers...

I am sure some are. The Infinity is a hard hitting, low distortion, and really affordable driver.

I am sure there are 1000's of people using those Infinity drivers in car applications. I mean if you know anything about audio in general and Infinitys sub offerings in particular they are known for their car audio products.

Maybe if you had a little more education on the Kappa Perfect and what it's replacement driver measure at you wouldn't be caught unaware.

Infinity seems a bit of a fail to me,

I will vouch for the Shiva though (I thought they went out of business though) I used a shiva for a home audio DIY sub and was pretty good, though i replaced it with a SVS 12" plus driver and it significantly outperformed it. prob overkill for a car.

Behringer power amps? cmon man, really? we can do better than this (though not applicable for a car obviously) :p

The Kappa Perfect VQ was a sub that was priced under what class it could hang at. Low distortion, high power handling, extremely linear. All around a really good sub considering the ~$170 price tag.

Kevin Haskins has had a rough time making a go of a niche market. One especially when you want to offer a well engineered product at a reasonable price. But his 2nd go around seems to be working. He isn't playing the cut rate pricing game. Just turning out solid product.

As far as Behringer is concerned my EP2500 has been doing sub duty for 3 years straight with zero issues. YMMV. Sometimes taking a chance pays off. I didn't want to spend any more than a I have to and 100's of people at AVSForum, AH, Hometheatershack so far have been proven correct. Proof is in the pudding.

+1 to creating a new thread in the Car Audio section.

But may I ask, what's your budget Kaos for either the subs alone or sub+amp? Or do you already have an amp at hand?

Can't even imagine what juku's saying now, that kid's been on my ignore list since I came back to the forum.

Sorry guys for not checking this thread in while. My bad. Also I do know that I had put this in the wrong section as well..... Yeah Im smart sometimes.

My budget for everything (subs, comp's amps, wiring, Dynamat, HO Alt) is roughly $3,200 give or take. I am saving the money now for the subs, comp's amp, and HO Alt, so this is something that is going to take a little, but I have great resolve. Here is a run down of where this is all going into

    2006 Toyota Tacoma Access cab
Plan on being a ported box, and have everything set to manuf. specs as far a freq goes etc.

Note: As for all the other people on here arguing about something that is not even relevent to my question. please stop. If you are looking to have an argument, please take it somewhere else or leave to P.M. only. I really dont like reading a bunch of grown a** men acting like "kids" trying to have a pissing contest. So, get a grip, and grow up. Thats all Im going to say about that.
