Norh SE9 tube amp

Anybody have any experience with this single ended tube amp. I found two professional reviews on-line, one praising it, one panning it.

I would be using this 9wpc single ended (single EL34 per channel) with my 5B's in a small bedroom. Don't need huge volumes but still want some dynamics and tube "bloom". Just wonder if 4 ohm 91dB speakers would work with this amp.

Please discuss

Thats about the cheapest price you will find. The only thing in the same range I ever saw was the DecWare $200 monoblocks (2x$200) several years back on a special sale. For twice the price you could get the 300B amp I reviewed in another thread but I wouldn't do that unless you are interested in pursuing high efficiency speakers later on. Same power, twice the price, very high quality sound. The Norh looks like it is easily worth the price.

Another option might be the other amp I discussed in that thread, the FU13 at 30wpc. I can't comment yet on that amp but initial sound was extremely powerful sounding through my DQ-10's which are power pigs. Unfortunately I received a faulty tube and am waiting for a replacement. The original cracked after awhile. Awesome slam and dynamics for such a low powered amp. I was also extremely excited about the quality of sound and the black background.

You think 9wpc SEP is enough juice to run the 5B's in a small room with decent dynamics?

I think I'm going to make an offer on one. Then maybe tweak it with Auricaps and some tube rolling. I like that it has a tube rectifier rather than a cheap diode.

I'm not sure only because I've not played with the 5B's. 9 watts on the big SDA's is semi-reasonable for medium listening and they are 91db efficient. You might want to keep an eye on this one in case it doesn't go up much. http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?intatube&1279676970&auc&3&4&
Its push pull but the 2A3 tubes are supposed to be really sweet!

I have a 12wpc push/pull 6V6 based amp that really sounds fantastic on the 5B's but it uses (2) 6V6's per channel so it has more drive (I assume). I made an offer on the Norh, so we'll see.

P.s. If I find it just can't cut it on the 5B's I'll look at more effecient speakers or offer it FS here on CP.

I do believe you have fallen off the edge Brock, enjoy the trip. Although not single ended I drove 1C's with 20 tubey watts to extreme satisfaction. I coveted high eff. speakers for a couple years and then ended up with the near impossible to drive...go figure.

Typical seller BS................still not a peep from the seller. I even sent him a couple questions before I sent an offer. He never answered the questions. This IS why it's so frustrating to buy used on-line. If you don't have time to maintain your sale and can't answer questions or mark it sold or respond to an offer. Then stay the f*ck off the selling sites.

I've had an SE-9 for a few years and still use it on occasion, the 5b's should be fine for reasonable listening levels.
I never found the norh had a problem with any music genre that I threw at it but I never really pushed the volume and was running roughly 90-92db efficient JBL 4410s.
Fun little integrated amp for the cost and cheap, relative ease of tube rolling with easy to find tubes. A+ in my book.

Ok, I have no response from the seller but when I look at the ad to see if it's marked *sold* or *sale pending*, this is what the screen looks like. Never seen this before. Does this mean he accepted my offer? WTF does it mean.

It appears it sold on July 1.

When I click "send payment" it has someone else's name and address for delivery.

This is very weird...................I was able to close the transaction as if I was the seller.

Anyways it appears it was sold 18 days ago. I guess the seller was too lazy to mark it sold.

If you feel like selling it, let me know and give me a heads up.

    Thanks
