Set your player to 5 ch analog out. Crank the subwoofer up 6 to 10 db in your AVR's menu. Life will be good.

When using 5.1 analog outputs from a player, the player is doing the processing, instead of the receiver. So, you need to set speaker distances and levels in the player's setup menus, like they are in your receiver's. This is why the volume is lower than when using the optical or coax (the settings are different).

Depending on the wording your player uses, you may have to set the priority to 5.1 analog out (or multi-channel), instead of HDMI or Optical. For the HD audio you may have to set it to output PCM or LPCM, depending............
    Good luck!
